Oh, I miss the 216 color Web palette. Not that it was pretty. Lord no. But it was way easier for me to come up with informed color combinations.

Now it’s everything, but I have to learn about gamut and
oklab()
if I want to do it right, and keep in mind that it’ll display different on every system.

Which is fun. But sometimes I miss everybody getting the same pea green soup.

You don’t have to list the entire Web, or even everything that matters. That was never a good idea. Or particularly interesting, for that matter.

Just — if you’re so inclined — share links to stuff you find interesting or useful. If you’re not so inclined — don’t?

BTW I do not recommend using #Logseq hierarchies in their current form. I’ve got it slightly more manageable with Page View UI putting subtrees in their own widget, but yeesh.

xz just makes me sad. Tech and FOSS culture in its current form will always produce more burnout, more vulnerable people, and more software vulnerabilities that exist because “people are dicks” instead of because “software is hard.”

Both are true, but it’s the first one that’s gonna kick our ass.

No I don’t know how to fix this. It’s human nature, and the people who take advantage of it. None of those go away. Just do your bit to look out for each other. Even when you’re dealing with a P0 at work, have some empathy. That’s the best we can do.

One of my hobbies is going through a big name open source backslide thread to discover equivalents that are actually FOSS.

Gruber responding to the DOJ antitrust news exactly how I thought he would, down to the pacing, rhythm, and primary verses, is sufficient encouragement for me to remove Daring Fireball from my RSS feed.

If I know what he’s gonna write before I read it, I don’t really need to read it.

@carlton similarly, it’s only force of habit that kept me subscribed this long. I’ve put less and less weight in his posts over the years, that’s for sure.

Nice thing about an outliner #PKM like #Logseq is you easily can develop your own conventions for what a node represents, like how indented under a heading is a paragraph in a section, and indented under a paragraph is a list item.

OTOH if you ever want to share those notes you get to decide how many of those conventions you should translate.

@earthshine It was a B horror movie, and sold as such, but it was a B horror art movie and folks didn’t catch on to that right away.

@bentsai You always stay aware of issues you latched on early. For me it was accessibility & being able to load my pages on spotty dialup. So accessibility, page weight, and latency are still things I grumble about with big name sites to this day.

hackers.town: 2024-03-22 Fri 23:04

So I know about waterfall development and I know about iterative development but I’ve got six scripts in four folders in three languages all borrowing from each other to implement the same idea from different angles depending on mood and I was wondering if convergent development was a thing.

Because if not, well, it should probably stay that way.
