Goodness that fixture code of mine feels a lot less clever now that I’m cleaning it up.

Halfway through writing the debug log statement and found the boo boo

Productive? You betcha. Drifting around in that “somewhere past tired” state though. Calling in unconscious.

Standup update: blockers?

“That coffee ain’t gonna drink itself”

@rabcyr this one, unfortunately.

Paraphrased conversation, for further insight into my brain:

Coworker: “QA found bugs.“Me: “Yay! Better them than a user.“Coworker: “Wait these bugs don’t look valid.“Me: “If so then QA found documentation bugs!”

me, squeeing internally

Because again, better QA than the new person in six months trying to figure out why the directions don’t work.

I can tell I’m gonna need to write my own Mastodon -> Twitter crossposter for my own particular needs.

I just go slow and think of Idris Elba.

You are of course free to ponder your preferred hunk.

I mocked this vision heavily at the time and yet here we are.

Nearly all of my work involves being on a remote container that’s pretending to be a computer, or on a local container that’s pretending to be the remote container.

Currently imagining remote desktop Solaris - or REBOL Internet OS <

  • plus 15 years of steady development.

And don’t tell me “web.” The Web is a collection of awesome / horrible things, not a single unified entity.

@hummingrain seems like common sense. QA is often the closest we get to a user representative. And I love users. Software only I can use is pointless in the grand scheme.

hackers.town: 2019-11-18 Mon 16:51

@hummingrain I pick good enough jobs that it’s rarely been an issue, but I allow no disrespect for QA in my workspace.

For (jeez) over a decade I’ve imagined this perfect workflow with 1:1 dev:qa teams that tear through tasks with tight feedback loops. Had it once by accident and it was awesome.

@hummingrain yah! I haven’t fully grokked pair programming but that sort of pairing worked so well for me.

You’re each in your own seat focusing on your own role, but the whole “what about now” and “I tried this with one million rows and it blew up” cycle was great.

dataclass accepting None for a field that’s supposed to be a Thing. Not an Optional[Thing].

Anyways, looks like Python takes hints about as well as I do.

The 2009 vs 2019 thing circling around again so

2009 me: “Try to look tidy, maybe something I can use for LinkedIn if I don’t screw it up”

2019 me: “HELLO WORLD I WAXED MY FACE HAIRS FOR YOU KINDA”

2009 straight-faced with goatee

2019: beardy with smirk
