What I want to see is the end of folks having one and only one place to socialize online. And I don’t mean the “country AND western” options of Twitter / FB / IG.
The Fediverse gives us hole-in-the-wall coffee shops, dusty bookstores, a friendly neighbor’s lawn, etc

Yes. Some Fediverse instances are awful places run by people with awful principles. Just like in real life.
If you don’t feel safe, don’t stick around. Just like in real life.
It’s okay to nuke that account and catch your breath before maybe trying another.

There are directories to find your particular interests, but I’m thinking there’s enough Fediverse users out there nowadays that you can ask around. Maybe your friends know a place. Or they know someone who would know a place.
