Loud Dog woke me up at 4:30 this morning. Course, I didn’t fall asleep until 12:30. Mind you, if I was one of those folks who could go back to sleep promptly, it wouldn’t be so bad.

Having an Arthur Dent moment here where the image produced by my prompt was almost but not quite entirely unlike my prompt.

screenshot of stable diffusion web ui; prompt: “Waterhouse painting of the world’s most interesting octopus drinking a microbrew at a nice sidewalk cafe in Seattle during a late summer afternoon”; image: A woman reminiscent of Waterhouse paintings, holding a dark beer, near an unattended IPA at a bar on maybe a covered porch; background is a non-specific city waterfront with an octopus maybe

Current state of the art in art AI is like “Googling as an artistic medium”

@SkipSandwichDX yes. “Interesting.”

Sort of like how in primary school I was “special.”

I mean. That does look a lot like Seattle. But clearly there’s a strong hipster <=> Seattle association in the dataset.

beardy dude with tasteful piercings and dressed in 19th century casual wear drinks a beer somewhere in Seattle’s Capitol Hill

The fresh coffee is ready so I’m calling it a success at this point.

something that looks like an octopus drinking what might be an IPA, while it and what might be a red-haired lady watch the sunset over water and mountain or maybe Arizona I don’t know

@masukomi Well that’s not quite what I was thinking of either, but it’s closer than what Stable Diffusion was coming up with.

Though to be fair this was my first focused session with any of this.

@szbalint yo

@thegibson I’ll check logs on the home router (which is not promising on its own). The activity stopped as soon as she asked one of the IT folks who was in her system.

hackers.town: 2022-10-05 Wed 12:52

@thegibson The remote admin tool is of the “take over your session” variety, and she noticed because somebody closed a window she was working on.

hackers.town: 2022-10-05 Wed 12:54

@thegibson Yep and if internal actors are dumb, well. Hanlon’s razor is pretty damn sharp when it cuts no matter which side of it these folks fall.

Infosec help desk talking her through an incident she reported.

Them: “Do you have a wireless keyboard?”

She: “Yes.”

Them: “Maybe interference… does your husband?”

She: “No he only uses wired.”

Me: [loudly typing DAMN RIGHT on my mechanical keyboard]

@rafial Isn’t it great?

Doesn’t matter if it’s a blog post or a code change I always start with this big word vomit & edit myself down to what should make the point.

Blog posts in particular will go from 3,000 words to 800 as I go “nope nope nope maybe wait i changed my mind nope”
