Tonight’s bedtime doodle in #LineaSketch.

No I don’t know what it’s supposed to be. She thinks it looks like a flower starting to bloom. I think maybe it’s some funky fungus.

A line drawing with pinkish shades, vaguely floral or fungal as described in post body.

Maybe time for some coffee.

@ieure if there’s corporate babysitter stuff installed, really strong chance that’s the root cause.

Have not yet encountered any that don’t cripple macOS in some way. Last one I dealt with was a poorly written system / kernel extension that nearly killed my previously perky personal MBP.

Exts are swimming upstream on macOS already, but if they’re asserting their own reality about security that goes double.

@c0debabe I mainly use Bootstrap in the context of (carefully organized) templating systems so yeah I guess that’s one context where I don’t mind code generation!

Loud sneeze from me sending Loud Dog into a brief frenzy of barking.

I guess she hates the competition.

“NO! I AM THE LOUDEST!”

@ieure Interesting! My current work machine is an M1 MBP and so far no issues, but admittedly I spend as little time on it as possible.

Not that it’s bad, just most of my favorite tools are still working kinks out in their Apple Silicon support.

Dangit brain. Stop. This is not a puzzle you can solve from here. Especially on a work day.

Just know that from here it’s a surprise. My only real complaint with the M1 has been the 16GB RAM limit. But Apple hardware is fussy as hell, and can be unpredictably derailed by minor (to me) variations of software stack.

My #KeyboardIO Model 100 arrived today. I like it very much.

A split keyboard under a ridiculously wide monitor.

hackers.town: 2022-10-21 Fri 17:12

@GeoffWozniak After a few years mostly enjoying the Model01, this definitely feels like lessons were learned, and the learning was put to use.

hackers.town: 2022-10-21 Fri 17:23

@GeoffWozniak I won’t lie, the split keyboard thing took some getting used to. But folks already accustomed seem to like it.

Closest thing to an issue for me is keybindings in some games and apps. Usually I’d swap out to a regular keyboard when playing. But this new keyboard is nice enough for full-time, so I’ll likely rebind those shortcuts.

hackers.town: 2022-10-21 Fri 17:31

@GeoffWozniak I’m likely to try a different layout soon. Got some Linear A keycaps so I still have visual cues but nothing my brain connects to letters I know. Because yeah not a true touch typist.

hackers.town: 2022-10-21 Fri 17:34

@GeoffWozniak Nothing wrong with being smart about keyboards that work for you!

I’m on to my fourth KeyboardIO keyboard, so definitely a fan. My specific complaints about the Model01 have been addressed in the Model 100.

Never tried the Ergodox, so not the best informed fan, but still. I know what I like.

@float13 Easiest to show for the thumb keys. The “fun” is for layers: F1–F12, alternate characters, whatever. I usually press it with my palm while fingers do the typing part.

You have to do the dead man switch yourself, but open source firmware and an enthusiastic community make that easier.

@masukomi Honestly I have no idea how it managed to click in my brain. And writing Perl!

Come to think of it, that may have been why.
