Me: “I don’t think I like Raft.”

Then goes on to play it for three hours.

Sure would be nice if it had a pause though.

“But Brian these are the stories of my childhood I can’t just abandon them because—”

Sometime we’ll sit down and talk about how in my childhood The Force went from something anybody could use if they paid attention to something only for übermenschen chosen by a higher power and I dropped Star Wars like a wet fashy fart.

@pdcawley @jaywilliams I am intrigued by what I hear about Andor, for sure.

hackers.town: 2023-02-09 Thu 09:22

@gizmomathboy @pdcawley which — you know — was generally the vibe of the original trilogy.

hackers.town: 2023-02-09 Thu 09:31

@pdcawley Yep. I see where they’re coming from, but that doesn’t mean I’m willing to meet them there.

Whoa hey, #ObsidianMD picks up on HTML embeds just dandy.

I mean it’s kind of obvious because I’ve been dropping raw HTML as needed for a bit, but I didn’t expect an embed to work.

Obsidian showing my quick notes about mostly nerdy Linux window manager things I want to look at; everything is nicely formatted rich text, and there’s an embedded comment from Reddit describing someone’s KDE setup.

@pdcawley @gizmomathboy the bloodline stuff was light enough in Star Wars that 5yo me could miss it, and dashed in lightly enough in Empire that 8yo me could go “well that’s just — like — your opinion man.”

By Return it was heavy-handed enough to bother me, and doubled down so hard in Phantom that I basically gave up right on time to read Brin’s comparison with Star Trek:

@WuMargaret @rabcyr@mastodon.social

Gods, yes. I dismissed the antisemitism and general racism initially as careless application of fantasy tropes, but JKR’s indignant insistence it had nothing to do with dirty foreigners bothered me. Was hoping for more of an “oh fuck oops sorry” rather than “my money keeps me warm at night.”

tangent: I missed rabcyr’s reply because right now Glitch (the Mastodon fork running hackers.town) seems to think every mastodon.social account is suspended. Fixes are in progress.

@pdcawley @lordbowlich I enjoyed Johnson’s version, but was too cranky about how lopsided the character development was. I wanted a lot more quality time with Finn and Rose, rather than what felt like a road trip buddy movie mini-arc.

But hearing Palpatine’s voice in the trailer for — sigh and the title — Rise of Skywalker? Still haven’t seen it.

@WuMargaret Clearly you didn’t miss out on much. Anything you need for the pop culture you can gather from Tumblr screenshots on Pinterest :blobwhee:

Trying to come up with punchy descriptions of responsibilities and accomplishments at my last job.

Let’s see — uh — I did — stuff?

Thank god I kept notes.
