Bit of local area grumbling as I wonder if the Washington state Employment Security Department is hiring web devs.
Anyways I can successfully log in on Linux with Chromium. Not Firefox or Vivaldi.

@TheDarkHorse It took about a year for my body to adjust from southern Idaho temperatures to western Washington temperatures. In that time I discovered HVAC and the very construction of the buildings made a lot of assumptions about local climate.
Numbers that would’ve been a pleasant respite from hell in Idaho became a sweaty mess in Washington.

@TheDarkHorse Right! I spent the last I dunno 35 years thinking “Oh I guess Washington made me a weather wimp.” Last year we went on vacation to Hawaii. As long as I avoided extended contact with the daystar, the 80F+ temperatures inside and out were pleasant

@TheDarkHorse one nice thing locally is we don’t have 10% of the bugs other states do. So one can open the upstairs windows in the evening to vent some of that heat out.

@TheDarkHorse Oh god the allergies.
hackers.town: 2023-05-14 Sun 10:39
@TheDarkHorse that could be smart. I take OTC allergy meds daily, with Sudafed as backup for the rough days. A shot might mean less to remember.

@edebill @TheDarkHorse Some places have them, some don’t. That’s more of a landlord issue than anything else. We put our own screens up in the current house.
You’d be shocked how light the bug traffic is in some spots around the northwest. When the property’s not built on actual wetlands, we don’t get much more than the occasional confused yellowjacket, which is promptly disposed of by the resident wolf spider.

@edebill @TheDarkHorse Basically, the more congenial your spider relationships are, the less you have to worry about anything else.
Except sugar ants, which apparently taste awful.

@thegibson @lmorchard @TheDarkHorse like I needed another reason to avoid anything involving Ohio.
hackers.town: 2023-05-14 Sun 14:23
@lmorchard @edebill @TheDarkHorse That’s pretty much it, yeah. Every once in a while a hobo spider gets airs but then they learn about the house rules: top half of the bed is mine, shower time is me time.

@mjgardner @edebill @TheDarkHorse I know some folks are uninterested in the concept of good citizen spiders. I try not to evangelize too much.

Found the #KeyboardIO Atreus during our big office migration. It got lost behind a bookshelf. Plugged it in and woo baby twenty words per minute.
hackers.town: 2023-05-14 Sun 15:49
20 there we go i forgot how to type numbers for a minute there
hackers.town: 2023-05-14 Sun 16:14
@mjgardner @jesse it’s a keyboard that screams out for customization and fortunately makes customization relatively easy.

Been learning #Flutter this year and it’s impressive. A lot of work has clearly gone into it. Dart itself is a strong OO language in the C syntax family. Good stuff.
But all things considered, I’d rather be using Tk.

Tonight’s bedtime #drawing was therapy homework.

hackers.town: 2023-05-14 Sun 22:31
@genehack Tk was my first GUI framework so they all get compared to it. And yeah they’re all prettier but they all fall short on GSD.

Hypersexualized Velma cosplay bothers me because the Scooby Gang was an ace polycule send toot
