@cstross took a closer look at the script. Turns out the toad is to counteract this line here which summons the all-consuming Void. That line was copied straight from a hypothetical untested cure for cancer on Ars Overflow, and that was an adaptation of an entry off Matt’s Scroll Archive to get rid of unwanted houseguests.

@cstross but if you leave that line out the caster implodes.

Unrelated: our guild is looking for a new apprentice.

@edchivers @cstross oh “Arcane Overflow” I like that. I was aiming for old-timey with a bonus pun.

@thegibson sometimes I try to imagine my career arc if my brain could be a little more flexible about which values to be flexible on.

Alas. No point in regretting being true to yourself.

@lmorchard I forgot it was that recent! You smoothly transitioned from tweets to toots so I kinda forgot there was a transition.

@thegibson I’m going with a qualified “do nothing.”

Meta and a fair chunk of the meta-friendly instances would already be covered by existing practices for defederating from instances run by assholes.

Figuring out how far to set the ripple effect and suchlike means more homework for already busy admins, and that sounds bad. 👁️

Watching a video on recommender systems and they very astutely provide Amazon as an example of someone leaning on quantity of data to skimp on quality of algorithm.
