Saw a questionable info-meme being shared repeatedly. Decided to add my thoughts. I’ll save you the click:
I’d add “critical thinking and information literacy,” especially to better analyze information presented to you in infographic or meme format. What did they include? What did they exclude? What biases do you see laid out before you? How many of them are deliberate and how many do you think are subconscious? Should you treat them differently?
and of course “wtf is supposed to be going on with that ‘survival skills’ icon”
Hire me and you could be working with this ray of sunshine!

@c0debabe swap “public speaking” for something less dedicatedly allistic, like “communication”
hackers.town: 2023-07-13 Thu 10:25
@jacobydave A wise choice. I only log in when I’m job hunting.
It has been a rough year, to say the least.
hackers.town: 2023-07-13 Thu 10:26
@jacobydave I had very similar thoughts on seeing “taxes”
hackers.town: 2023-07-13 Thu 10:28
@cinebox I started there, and my brain kept noticing more and more questionable choices.
Social etiquette is female-coded. but public speaking is male?
It’s why I ended up at “critical thinking.”

@jacobydave Silicon Valley was about as funny as a Dilbert strip i.e. it amused me until I realized that technically I was laughing at the wrong bits, which I could tell because only did running gags on the most tedious of tropes.
hackers.town: 2023-07-13 Thu 10:41
@jacobydave so clearly I’m in the betting pool for “random SV writer turns out to be fascist”
hackers.town: 2023-07-13 Thu 10:46
@jacobydave “always use protection when entering the mosh pit”
hackers.town: 2023-07-13 Thu 10:48
@jacobydave I see “show old people the door” which is of course open to interpretation
hackers.town: 2023-07-13 Thu 11:25
@jacobydave seems like an important lesson for class.
hackers.town: 2023-07-13 Thu 11:32
@mjgardner no worries. Y’all are under no obligation to like each other. I think the conversation about semantics might have been interesting, but it wasn’t one they wanted to have and your exit from the burgeoning mess was graceful.
hackers.town: 2023-07-13 Thu 11:33
@jacobydave thought we were still in the etiquette class for a second and I went “yep mosh pits be like that”

New fiscal quarter, getting tentative pings from recruiters. Which is nice, since the last couple weeks were so quiet I thought it was Christmas.
And recruiters also been better about following up. They’ve been saying “no” but at least I’m not left guessing!

@cstross @mattcomi I haven’t lived in California since I was a kid, but if it’s helpful every location so far is “place where rich people live and / or vacation”
hackers.town: 2023-07-13 Thu 13:16
@ieatkillerbees oh no
(no but actually yay obviously but given computers as such still kind of oh no)
hackers.town: 2023-07-13 Thu 13:20
@tk @ieatkillerbees now now. Keep your anger pointed in the right direction. Computers are only a tool.
Tools bad.

@IamMrsGeek Or if Calgon was a paid assassin, maybe. “Calgon, take them out!”
Sorry. I’ll stop.
hackers.town: 2023-07-13 Thu 15:34
@IamMrsGeek because I know what happens to folks who don’t treat you like a super nice, caring, and loving person.
hackers.town: 2023-07-13 Thu 15:36
@mmastrac not such a strong need if you’re doing cool stuff with Rust for Deno.
hackers.town: 2023-07-13 Thu 16:14
Shifting focus on the Windows partition from breaking everything with Chocolatey to breaking everything with Winget.
Choco’s more conservative with #Nushell updates, which is correct from the IT staff sanity perspective but not from the breaking everything perspective.

@jerry like
a bag of potato chips
or sprinkled loose like a trail of salty crunchy rose petals leading to the love of one’s life (i.e. more chips)
hackers.town: 2023-07-13 Thu 16:21
@masukomi yep that is an unnerving arrangement of clouds.
hackers.town: 2023-07-13 Thu 16:45
@nosherwan @btp here’s one light taste. Many more are needed!

#SiYuanNote recently got proper extension support via plugins. Not to be confused with its existing support for templates and dynamic in-page widgets. Stuff that enhances the overall application. Like a calendar plugin, which makes it way easier to do my journaling #PKM stuff in SiYuan.

@futurebird Or even when you’re just having a bad day and need that one song to cheer you up, and for whatever reason it’s no longer (or never was) available on the streaming service.
The Spotify versions of my therapy playlists are downright anemic compared to what I have on my hard drive.
