@masukomi Same. The Nikola SSG supports using a separate metadata file paired to the content file — though if I’m using Nikola, I’ll just take the next step and use rST where fields are part of the document structure.
Obsidian’s Live Edit looks like the start of a real nice approach, rendering YAML frontmatter as a properties table. We’ll see how they iron out the wrinkles!

@masukomi strong agree. One possible endpoint of my note consolidation is org-roam + vulpea.
Trilium is a real interesting implementation of notes as database, with open-ended extensibility via JS. But a) JS; and b) the notes themselves are HTML, so fancy scripting involves SQL + DOM.

@masukomi Incidentally, I got sufficiently fed up with the frontmatter / content disjoint that my current metadata is limited to inline tags and the occasional list of Dataview properties:
- prop:: val
Those props may shift back to YAML if Obsidian’s frontmatter handling is sufficiently improved. I’ll probably still go pretty lightweight though.

@pluralistic @wordshaper “have you tried swimming?”

@masukomi denote is kind of a genius project. I only dabbled a little with the tool itself, but I promptly stole the naming convention for some of my own stuff.

The very thumbnail has this developer with a history of #Perl enjoyment — well it has me hyperventilating and reaching for a paper bag to regulate my breathing or throw up in, I haven’t decided.
