This solves a mystery for me. Why did those expensive West Seattle apartments we lived in have such terrible sound insulation? Why did they feel so solid when you stepped into the building, but so rickety when you actually settled into your new space? Five-over-one construction.

September is when a lot of my annual subscriptions come due, and now I get to do some serious prioritization.
Being reminded that the original appeal of FOSS for me wasn’t philosophy. It was budget. Free and libre had strong appeal for a 20-something waiting tables. Kinda looping back around to that key feature with what 2023 has been.

Okay it was a little bit philosophy, but not in a manifesto kind of way. More that using pirated Adobe added a layer of cognitive dissonance that my neurospicy brain found draining.
Linux and FOSS tools were harder to use but I could concentrate on learning how to use them without constantly thinking about how I should be accessing my tools.

#TIL that diners were named and modeled after train dining cars, because that’s what the first diners were: dining cars just set up somewhere permanent.
And all the motifs – the open kitchen, booth seating, frequent art deco elements, simple menu – have just maintained long past their original context, like the save icon of restaurants or something.

I’d seen diners that were dining cars, but I thought that was the novelty – not the original implementation.

Watched the newer Charlie’s Angels movie – the one with Bella and Professor X? It wasn’t a good movie. It knew it wasn’t a good movie, and it was okay with that. No pretense of theater, no over embellished too-aware campiness, nothing like that. Just an hour and a half of cheese.
I liked it.

@nazgul that’s the thing with eleventy. It’s very “Yes and” when it comes to functionality. I’ve defined collections as pages, nodes, filtered selections from other collections.
That’s powerful but also hard to pin down sometimes.

@nazgul been thinking about trying Lume, which is basically “Eleventy but Deno.” The heavy Typescript might make debugging easier.
