@thegibson thanks to a surge of Nu Metal, I was already not listening to the local “alternative” station, thus only heard about Clear Channel activities second-hand.

@thegibson My own perspective: I was just so sad. I knew exactly what was about to happen, and saw how hungry people were for it. I knew my history. But at 29 I didn’t know the weight of years a forever war would involve. I just knew some things were gonna suck for the rest of my life.

@thegibson seems tangential but this is why I get it when zoomers tag us as boomers. Multiple times we had our future taken from us so our efforts could be focused on the previous generation’s causes and insecurities.

@tk about the farthest I’d go is that No Man’s Sky scratches a similar itch to Minecraft. It has more official plot, and there’s a lot to explore but it doesn’t feel like there’s as much to see. Light years wide and about an inch deep. The construction is assembling prepackaged components.
But they have kept adding more year after year, and there’s always something new. Similar to MC that mods add a lot missing from the core game, but I’ve only dabbled there.

@tk But I probably can’t make a really fair comparison. I only ever look at Minecraft through big kitchen sink modpacks, and I mostly play vanilla NMS.
But both lean heavily on grind, explore, and deal with storyline if and when you feel like it.

Oh. Folks just don’t usually finish an #Exercism track. Course that makes sense. Maybe they’re like me: register, then ignore the site for several years.
Anyways. Finished the #Java learning path. Not all the exercises. Just the learning one.

@bitprophet It seems to be. It’s been through a few iterations since I first heard of it. Core’s the same: shared learning community site with multiple language learning tracks, but only as social as you want it to be. Can request mentoring or code review on your solutions, to get more idiomatic tips.
So far all I’ve done is to do Java exercises with automated test checks. Noticed there were 130 or so, so I started focusing on the core topic exercises.
