Yesterday’s word of the day was “techno-optimism.” Both the word and my abortive reading of the venture capitalist’s manifesto reminded me of David F. Noble’s The Religion of Technology.

I read that 2000 or so. No idea if it still holds up, but back then it sprayed a fine cooling mist on my own technological utopianism.

@fitzgepn I’m whatever you call it when you enjoy writing code but keep a blunt instrument next to the printer just in case it makes a funny noise.

Cataloging some of the simpler game assets I got off itch.io —like sound files — using #Nushell for my notes.

That’s on Windows. Pretend it’s xclip or pbcopy or whatever you use.

@lmorchard “How to fix the Internet” → close the tab

seems like part of the fix for our modern Internet right there

But honestly yeah. I’m getting shades of 2006 or so. You know, before pop-up blockers became basically universal?

@ksaj @lmorchard I suppose technically true, but I stopped seeing blink outside of controlled sanctuary environments like Geocities by oh I dunno 2002?

Looking at an image asset file on Github for somebody’s space shooter project and seeing an ad in the already-overloaded UI, for Github Copilot.

Not a big ad or anything, just enough to remind you that the enshittification will continue until Microsoft extracts all value from Github, lets it die, and we all move on morale improves.
