@dch Same! I watch it roughly once a year :blobsmile:

As a “clean as you go” person, I’m firmly of the opinion that tech debt tickets are a good way to ensure tech debt never gets cleaned up.

@feoh Even in the best case, they’ll have budgeted tech debt time, but that ends up with cleanup trickling along behind the pace of adding new work.

Hey I lose a lot of seconds every day being mad at Web sites that usurp keyboard handling for their own functionality. Not even “apps” but documentation sites that think me hitting / or C-f means I want to search their entire site.

Anybody know of a setting, browser, or browser extension that lets me disable that? per-site or universally?

I’m bending some on usefulness of the technologies under the blanket term “AI” but it depends heavily on “who” and “what for.”

I have never enjoyed any feature of Dropbox beyond file-syncing, and found most downright intrusive. Therefore, based on precedent: letting some third party process all my data for some unspecified Dropbox improvement?

That’s a “no” from me, thank you.

@brohrer I call it “deprogramming”

hackers.town: 2023-12-13 Wed 11:25

@mikaeleiman @danielskatz I have the setting as well here in the US. What I don’t have is confidence that opting out will be respected.

hackers.town: 2023-12-13 Wed 11:28

@brohrer Byproduct of me actually starting to use and study AI tools.

I mean “prompt injection” is just too wordy.

hackers.town: 2023-12-13 Wed 11:29

why call it “prompt injection” when “deprogramming” is right there

hackers.town: 2023-12-13 Wed 11:35

@nomad true enough. Getting it to persist is the interesting challenge.

@IamMrsGeek to be fair this is a pic of her at 13

@mneme ideally one should be writing it down in the commit message, but fair point.

But I’ve worked in precious few organizations that prioritized tech debt in any meaningful way, so sometimes the only way quality is going to happen is if you make it happen.

@mjgardner @lkhrs@fosstodon.org @lapcatsoftware there’s still macOS for the work and personal laptops, so a Safari solution is relevant!

Ah, Comcast. The seven-letter four letter word.

hackers.town: 2023-12-13 Wed 17:08

@chris what is ChatGPT?

hackers.town: 2023-12-13 Wed 17:10

@chris I’m sorry you must phrase your response in the form of a question.

Oh hey threads dot net is appearing and being acknowledged in the Fediverse. Good for them I guess?

It’s like hearing someone opened a B Dalton at the flea market.

Got confused about the gender matchup of an adapter I’m looking for. Male? Female? Uh.

Bedtime music, though that’s based mostly on timing.
