Some folks worry about the surveillance capitalism aspect and sure that’s valid, but poisoning our well by turning the Fediverse into a broadcast platform for Threads provides value for Meta as well. They can deprioritize improving Threads if they can make everything else suck too.
Lots of keyword mute tuning in my future.

People talking about what Google and Facebook did to XMPP and I’m not sure I ever said this out loud before but –
I kinda miss AIM chat sometimes.
You know? How you could just chat? And you could set your status? And all your friends would see it? And you could do so from Pidgin? Or Trillian? And for a brief moment most of the people you wanted to talk to were using it?

@eikenberry Agreed, at least for the device involved. I get too much SMS spam for it to be a useful chat medium. So my chats are split between Telegram, FB Messenger, and more asynchronously through toots.

Comcast tells us the only legit way to hook up an extra room was with a second account. So a second account is set up. After multiple phone calls confirming it’s a second account and not to disconnect the primary, guess what they did? During a meeting?
