@taylorhadden I don’t mind table widgets in WYSIWYG editors but I hate them when my brain is in text mode.

@taylorhadden @jalefkowit@octodon.social factually yes, but a) to my overly cynical brain that sounds even darker; and b) mostly I think we’re describing a mood rather than a practice

One of the reasons I realized “introvert” wasn’t quite right and started digging in the direction that led me to ADHD: I have trouble engaging my brain if work Slack / Teams is too quiet. Like – if it’s just me I may as well work on my Web site or something.
Too much is too much, but yeah for my brain there’s also too little.

@ShadowJonathan are any of them a printer or cloud-connected service device like voice assistant, security camera, or light bulb? No? Then I don’t see the problem.

Been looking at a lot of Python code from very large orgs as I learn their APIs. TBH getting frustrated how sloppy it all is. Does nobody read import this?
Getting the itch to play with grass-is-greener strictness of Go or Rust, and the “h*ck it we’ll do it live” of Perl.

@tk PHP is a maybe, more because I’m way out of practice than any distaste for (modern) PHP. C never really scratched any of my itches.

@tk no
just
no

@b0rk I wouldn’t personally describe mine as “many times” but definitely way more than once or twice. And it took very smart people a very long time to untangle the messes. Usually roll back to last working version while they did detective work on main.

@tk still no.
Though most of my incorrect PHP assumptions date back to roughly v4 vintage.

Alas Niklaus Wirth.
Good day to remind the world that Free Pascal continues to exist and be awesome.
hackers.town: 2024-01-03 Wed 12:46
@kusuriya okay yeah but it’ll be harder to hook that one up to a Niklaus Wirth memorial.

@loresjoberg @gizmomathboy ah so you believe in hell?

Okay so I never got good at Pascal but I learned a bit of it in high school. It felt so much better organized and easier to understand than my BASIC code I’d been writing up to that point.
The advanced kids in the class were learning C, and – C looked like a step back structurally speaking. Couldn’t read it, didn’t want to.
So Pascal is why I never had any interest in C.

@chriscoyier I occasionally miss the immediate available functionality of a CGI script.

@philsplace I am in awe.

She was watching some kind of business pitch video which she has since wandered away from. At one point the presenter said “the ’e’ in e-commerce stands for ’email’” and twenty minutes later my eye is still twitching.

Nothing like taking a smooth suave site theme — in this case Poison — and giving it anxiety tweaking it to better suit my needs.

I filled my “move” ring while sitting at my desk most of the day — again. Apparently I fidget even more than I realized.
