@meredith oh heck even by 1999/2000 it seemed so daunting as to be unreasonable. Wouldn’t imagine trying to catalog the whole thing now. I’m thinking more human or group curated collections of links worth remembering. Some just a bookmarks page, some over the top folks like me dumping all their notes online.

@WuMargaret No it’s pretty common. I’ve been fiddling with file formats and simpler layouts, and if I get consistent good results I’ll let the world know!

@markofmarks Gopher is still a (very small) thing, and there’s Project Gemini as an update / extension.

Learning about how the fedi flow works (as opposed to other places with their algorithms and whatnots), as my cheeky toot has been boosted back into my own timeline in distinct little waves, three or four times.

@Johannab yeah I’m definitly getting a better high from this :bloblaugh:

KDE way too boring and functional these days. Loading my QTile config for the traditional Linux experience.

Not QTile generally mind you, just my config.

(computer immediately bursts into flames)

Yes this is the correct way to enjoy Linux.

@lmorchard “because it looks cool” is not good enough reason?!

Well, no. Clearly not. I mainly installed Enlightenment to show off to visitors. I think the fanciest I got was AfterStep with some nice themes, and even then I settled into WindowMaker pretty quick.

@kattni @craigmaloney@octodon.social Thank you for sharing. I’ve known him online for — a while. Not close, but close enough to miss him being around for friendly chats.

A sad about @craigmaloney@octodon.social and a mad about #FuckCancer.

@maddiefuzz @craigmaloney@octodon.social same and same. I think I knew him on identi.ca. I know he’s one of them whose name I’d bounce into frequently with my alt-social-network explorations.

@llewelly but those were the days of mad science. Your homework and jello shooter jam up? Invent a homework and jello shooter dejammer.

Can’t get that to work? Time for the homework and jello shooter dejammer shooter.

One thing I’m grateful to about how Fedi’s set up is I’m not going to be cursed with “Remember that dead person? Wish them a happy birthday!” or “congratulate them on seven years at $job!”

hackers.town: 2024-04-02 Tue 11:37

@georgetakei @blogdiva I’m looking forward to the trend-setting Gap Mosh commercial.

git pullsh is a typo today but get ready for it to be a command next year.

@cestith you do what you can because that’s exactly what you can do. You don’t have to be a rock, just be solid enough to have her back. @craigmaloney@octodon.social

@merileedkarr ok but I’m not going on LinkedIn to congratulate Napoleon on 200 years in rabbit care!

EDIT: I CAN COUNT

@profoundlynerdy @taylorhadden Nope that one’s bit me on the posterior region before.

I do like Python but it has way more warts than its enthusiasts would like to believe.

She got me a special gift and now I can shoot lasers at my brain.

OH: “It’s a nice day out! Unusually nice.” (eyes narrow suspiciously)

Weather in the Pacific Northwest.

hackers.town: 2024-04-02 Tue 18:10

two days staring at some ignored whitespace in output before I realized I was telling Hugo those files were Markdown instead of HTML.

hackers.town: 2024-04-02 Tue 20:35

@genehack That’s the theory, anyways!

“Unlike some SSGs, Zola makes no assumptions regarding the structure of your site.”

3.5 seconds to bump into config defaults mutating any slug with a date prefix (until you set paths_keep_dates = true)

I’m gonna try this idea in Eleventy instead tomorrow, I think.

@lmorchard Torchlight killed Diablo for me. And most brownwashed games, for that matter.
