Catching news on Fedi’s a lot like very early Twitter in that it’s not people sharing the news but people snarking about it, so you use pattern matching and a little deductive reasoning to figure out what’s actually happening.

@phoenix @hobs leaning on public code contributions for candidates tends to filter out people lacking the privileges of spare time and/or prior employers with public codebases, so I consider highlighting it a cautionary note about company culture more than a tip.
No, I don’t have a better idea. It’s one of the fundamentally broken things in our current dev culture, and fixing it changes everything.
