I know folks like their big editors. Sometimes I do too. All those super-extensible editing environments like Neovim, Emacs, VS Code (even though —well, Microsoft — plus it’s stolen the title from Emacs for “Eats Memory And Constantly Swapping”).

Big editors are fun, but I really do prefer $EDITOR to be smaller and more focused. Plugins are okay, but not so much “redefine your whole workflow and learn a new packaging system twice a year just for your editor.”

Anyways, just my periodic cheerleading for #MicroEditor after I installed its LSP plugin. The bindings were listed right there in the README, and I didn’t have to tune anything to get golsp working with this code.

@jmac soothsaying is the better analogy, though just as fraught for folks who don’t know their mythology or history.

But yeah I wish Generative AI had been pitched as a bonk upside the head instead of as a content machine with answers. It’s way more useful as a creativity boost than it ever could be for the mundane stuff they try to tell us it’s for.

@nazgul @OhJoySexToy oh that is curious.

Seemed genuinely harmless to me, unless maybe they didn’t want to reshare because you just gave them an idea :bloblaugh:

@minego “big” here is more a matter of functionality and extensibility than heft.

I feel about Neovim the way some folks feel about Python. Gave up on Neovim after the third time or so that my selected plugin manager had been retired and archived.

@IamMrsGeek planning ahead? In this economy?

hackers.town: 2024-05-15 Wed 11:55

@jamie Been a problem for me for years.

There’s another pile for second pass evaluation, but here’s the going-with-us-on-the-1200-mile-move-no-matter-what stack of visual media.

@vantablack sorta same, but I got the excuse of a big moving coming up. I’m leaning hard on that excuse, and not looking forward to getting back into the search full-speed after.

Saw reference to an acronym “CLT” for “Command Line Tool” which is weird to me.

I always say “CLI Tool” for “Command Line Interface Tool.” Never really thought to fully compress the acronym. That’d work out to —

oh

well

okay then

CLT isn’t that much better

@minego at least we finally found it. Took me a few decades.

hackers.town: 2024-05-15 Wed 13:05

@tk @minego I’m eternally grateful for her seemingly endless patience.

@socketwench Course many folks who interact with the terminal do so through a terminal emulator, so really it’s a Pseudo-Terminal User Interface.

EDIT: These have all been spoken for and purchased. Thank you Fediverse for providing better homes than a garage sale would have!

Selling three of my #KeyboardIO keyboards. They all work dandy and have been much loved — and I’m keeping my Model 100 —but we’re moving. Maybe these can be much loved by someone else.

Asking USD $125 each for the Model 01 split keyboards, and $60 for the 44-key Atreus.

Price includes full keyboard, carrying case, and US shipping. I can throw in a USB-C connector if you need one.

$15 gets you the blank white Model 01 keycaps, or $10 if you’re also getting a keyboard.

Message me if you’re interested!

@beaumains I mean

you are not wrong

I have three of those wooden butterflies. I never needed three of them. But one was the Kickstarter, two was so I could have one at the office, and three was the Model 100.

“Your Linkedin profile stood out - we’re currently hiring people who are both proficient in English (B2+ or similar) and Fluent Traditional Chinese Writers - like you!”

uhhhh

¿Qué?

hackers.town: 2024-05-15 Wed 15:37

@dashdsrdash It does bring about more chaos, which is a key contribution I’ve made to past projects. But I’m not sure.

@freakazoid Folks — including me unfortunately — feel the need for a weightier term for the fancier commands that may include many subcommands, interactivity, Unicode rendering, and multiple steps.

But “command” really does cover it.

We put the cats in harnesses for a few minutes, to help prepare them and us for the driving part of the move. They took this first time pretty well, actually. Responded favorably to getting skritches.

Helps that I bribed them with treats at every step.

But even so, Barry started getting antsy after ten minutes. That’s fine. Plenty for first session.

hackers.town: 2024-05-15 Wed 17:18

The most promising aspect: no blood was shed, no claws came out, and they didn’t run and hide after the harnesses came off. Pretty much business as usual.

hackers.town: 2024-05-15 Wed 17:25

@stefani nope!

hackers.town: 2024-05-15 Wed 18:31

@funnelfiasco how do you feel about adverbed nouns?

hackers.town: 2024-05-15 Wed 18:33

@funnelfiasco No I think I missed that one!

Tries Bliss the peaceful-like modpack where the mobs are docile and the environment’s non-threatening. Dies on the first day.

In case you’re curious how skilled I am.

@fedward @genehack sorry for the missed window!

And yep I vaguely recall them doing some sort of switch on the switches after the Kickstarter. These were Box Brown, and they went to Kailh after.

@finn blasting music to interrupt a public meeting.

There’s some small satisfaction confirming that billionaires can be cheap trailer trash too.

okay a very expensive trailer but still
