@Crell Definitely that author’s opinion that mutable default arguments isn’t a gotcha. I see it treated as such far more often.

@socketwench Yah. Incal was bad enough that I took the rest of the series off my wishlist.

Not gonna lie, coding assistant autocompleter is real nice when working with Go. So much boilerplate.
Still need to look sharp for the Ducking Problem, and me as a learner looking up nearly every suggestion because “it can’t possibly require that much code oh wait i guess it does.”
hackers.town: 2024-05-17 Fri 09:16
unsure if this is praise for coding assistants or insults for go but hey take whichever you prefer

Couldn’t find the delete button anymore but I deactivated at least.

@grmpyprogrammer The paradox I’m discovering is that the more critical your eye while using — but still actually using it — the more utility they can provide.
I see a mix of good ideas and popular misconceptions when it makes suggestions for code I know, so I assume the same when in unfamiliar domains.
hackers.town: 2024-05-17 Fri 09:39
@grmpyprogrammer oh sorry I started with the tangent from my answering thought instead of the answering thought:
One hurting point (of several, probably) is when you take the suggestions at face value.

Found a test data faker for Go and one more little piece of my accustomed dev workflow clicks into place.

How to recognize senior devs by their conversations, a rough paraphrase:
SR DEV A: “THING might be good”
SR DEV B: “probably better than nothing”
SR DEV A: “maybe”

She is watching important presentations given by people who do not know public speaking or presentation giving.
She is not enjoying the experience.

Lost an hour basically trying to figure out why I wasn’t getting an exception in Go. Then I remembered I was in Go and had forgotten to explicitly look for an error.

Started reading a graph database tutorial and tuned out at “First Steps” because they were contrasting their loved Datalog syntax
with SQL and the SQL was just — bad‽
This produces the same output in SQLite.
Anyways I’m sure it’s a fine database.

Decided to start setting my sleep reminders again, because my schedule’s been drifting and that has a slow drain effect on everything.
