Back in Linux to mess with cgo because if I’m learning a new tool I should keep it in a familiar context at least.

Because my brain’s very much in “hey let’s try $idea” mode.

Brain: “This logger supports JSON logging. Hey let’s find out if #Nushell can make JSON logging legible in the terminal!”

So yeah. Given a program that logs to STDERR and a Nu session:

Split terminal showing Go code that logs as JSON via logrus in one pane, and the logged output as a Nushell table in the other pane

@raganwald I grew up in close proximity to trained engineers, so startup / techbro “engineering” has always been genuinely weird to me.

I’ve always gravitated towards informal titles because the formal titles had weight to me.

And yet here we all are.

Ah now that’s the kind of sky I’m used to. Sure it’s 100F but I’m dressed for 100F, there’s a lovely cooling breeze, just enough humidity that you don’t build a thirst by breathing, and the sun is nowhere to be seen. Bliss.

“With respect to content that is already on the open web, the social contract of that content since the 90s has been that it is fair use. Anyone can copy it, recreate with it, reproduce with it. That has been freeware, if you like. That’s been the understanding”

Freeware and fair use are wildly distinct concepts. For starters, freeware is explicitly labeled as such.

“Social contract” my ass. There’s a reason entire orgs are dedicated to untangling open software and content licenses. https://flipboard.social/@TechDesk/112696891873847152

Watching My Lady Jane and it’s a whole lot — uh — busier than I expected.

Jumpy Dog itching to go for her after-dinner walk.

So excited! I’m putting the walking harnesses on the dogs! I’m getting the leashes ready! I’m — putting on my hoodie?

Why the hoodie? A confused look from Jumpy Dog. I haven’t worn the hoodie since — since —

We get two steps past the front door. She realizes it’s raining. The air feels funny. Oh and there’s been thunder for an hour.

Jumpy Dog decides she can wait for her walk. Both dogs turn in unison back to the door.
