Looking at one of my ten year old notes with lots of links. Thought I’d check the links.
Obvious take: between link rot (404 and / or server gone), link misdirection (redirect to site home without a note), and plausible answer generators in search engines, we got a real memory hole problem here.

Sometimes the design thoughts are too free-floating for a “design document.” So I go to the whiteboard. Not one of those enterprise whiteboards with so much structure they break your flow. Heck no.

Today in #GoLang I learned to use MarshalJSON() when the shorthand struct syntax doesn’t cut it.

starting to understand the distaste for cgo. It’s almost easier to reimplement a library in Go than to write a trustworthy binding for it.

@jamie broken links were kind of a known quantity. I don’t like them, but I can handle them.
But those last two oh lord. How many links that check out okay in my simple automated site tests are just redirecting to the site index? I’ll need to add that to my tests.
And not being able to reliably search to find where the links might be today (outside of archive.org)? That was also an unexpected vat of awful.

Installed fx and otreefor JSON viewing in the terminal. otree is prettier, but fx is more responsive to user input for large documents (a 354K line file).

@jmac Sounds like a grand idea! Incidentally I haven’t been here long enough to confirm, but all evidence suggests the ideal time for a not-desert person to visit would be Fall or Winter.

If it smells like techbro I stay away. I didn’t know why the Zed editor smelled like techbro, but it did and I stayed away.
And yes, they have the key qualification of being unclear about consent. So my nose was right on that one.
As folks tried to make clear in this and other tickets, it’s not the downloading LSP tools from 3rd parties. It’s the downloading without asking, and apparently also not verifying the download.

Bumped into the sentiment in multiple places today that product dev & process automation require knowing your customer’s job better than they do and—
