Need to cleanup from my cleanup, but I got this thing nearly as functional as it was before I started this stage.
Before, I generated a JSON export for Hugo to process with a content adapter template. But that also meant transforming the Markdown myself, as Hugo complained otherwise.
Now it’s an old-fashioned 1:1 export of pages to content files spiked with shortcodes. Let Hugo do the Markdown part again.
Notable outcome is I got export+Hugo time from 2.5s to 1.4s on 600 public pages, with well-lit paths for speeding it up from there.
