Almost two months since moving to Tucson, and my body continues to choose “incremental” as the adjustment mode of choice.
5:30am this morning, 80F? Ah, nice and brisk. So pleasant.
7:30am this morning, 86F? Too hot too sweaty I think I am going to die.

@mwop I think the latter is the biggest impact. I’ve walked around enjoying a soothing 100F at dusk. But that’s after the daylight was 107F.
And 5:30am is roughly sunrise, so by 7:30 you’re getting a lot more sunshine with that temperature boost.

Hit the part where I’m parsing tags in Markdown with Go and once again fighting the urge to rewrite the whole thing in Perl.
Well — Crystal. Because one goal is a single executable and at least Crystal Regexp supports PCRE2 syntax. And /x.
Plus @jamie wrote a KuzuDB binding so I could reuse some logic from my Python experiment.
But the primary goal was “learn Go” and being annoyed is part of that.

@darius Mint is good. Pop OS used to be my fave, but core functionality has suffered (for me) while they concentrate on Cosmic Desktop.
If you’re feeling Ubuntu-adventurous, maybe try Regolith? i3wm but tightly configured and well-documented enough that I was getting work and play done without issues.

@alex @alexschroeder for personal sites, you are your primary audience. So you should always write in the way that pleases you!
I enjoy a mix of short and medium form, though I’ve lost my taste for the tech novellas I used to write. My current experiments aim to simplify sharing that mixed style in a single site.
And all this so 2034 me will be able to find stuff.

if from an instance my admin — whose judgment I trust — has defederated from (but not actually blocked or I wouldn’t see it): -1
if the bio gives me bad vibes: -1
if there’s no post activity or all I see is boosts: -1
if I like the posts and who the account boosts: +1
if I like the bio: +1
Needs a positive score for approval. Sometimes it’s a little iffy but maybe? I’ll let the request sit, and check again later.

@jamie as things were recovering was a fantastic time to be a minimally experienced dev with energy to burn though. By 2004 one of my biggest selling points was that I was still standing.

figuring out in Go how to test a function that reads an open file
made the function take an io.Reader instead
then made the test function write to a buffer, then hand that buffer to a Reader that I then handed to the function being tested
giving myself a cookie now

@jfrench Probably wouldn’t, but for my learning curve “os.File” → “io.Reader” was an easier step than “os.File” → “uh, how do I mock things in Go?”
