According to the upgrade helper plugin, this old Eleventy site I’ve got will work just fine in 3.0.

Well that’s boring. Time to go in and make some edits.

@raganwald There are ways in which running a Web app feels less functional than the days trying to run Word on a 386, watching letters appear well after I typed them.

and I had undo.

@dandean I dunno, DHH of Ruby on Rails never struck me as an extremist. He just went from pretty rude, to kind of okay, to cliche conservative.

There’s some of what you say out there for sure, but the majority of what I’ve directly evaluated is a wiggle on the needle from “seems nice” to “kind of a jerk actually.”

hackers.town: 2024-08-09 Fri 10:16

@dandean No lie, I’ve seen the ones who swing from one dogma to another depending on their medication levels and personal inconvenience, and the devotees of the former dogma who cry fowl (or RINO) when they no longer see a true believer.

But I try to avoid those crowds. Formative years around 1970s northern California cults made me cautious.

Looking for RPG-style modpacks and everything I’m hitting is “this is just like D&D” and I will wash your mouth out with a bag of D6s and the other bag of d10s if you don’t stop spouting blasphemy uh I mean my RPGs of choice are GURPS, Hero, WoD, Traveller. I don’t enjoy class-based systems IRL and I certainly don’t enjoy them in my gaming.

guess it’s a kitchen sink modpack again

this particular ADHD gamer cannot relate to the role of an individual with sufficient focus to have a specialized character class

hackers.town: 2024-08-09 Fri 13:28

@structuregeek the adults in my childhood gamer group were already into Iron Crown stuff like Arms Law and Spell Law, so I got used to venturing outside D&D very early.

I still feel like Traveller was the only major RPG to get randomized character generation right. Build a character, build their story, risk them dying during character generation. Good stuff.

@masukomi lucky you!

I used to rush to set up the work laptop at a new gig. But I have learned over enough new gigs to take my time. At least wait until I’ve got the instructions they said would be coming.

The chronic bedhead and finding everyone feels uncomfortably accurate.

@genehack I OTOH am pragmatic about cannibalism in crisis situations.

My shirt says “if you can read this you’re too close” but Bouncy Dog can’t read so he’s good.

Black chihuahua mix dog naps absolutely zonked out while nestled in a baby sling worn by nerdy dude in a novelty t shirt

@A_bee @voidedmain a brassica brigade

Haven’t seen this many monarch butterflies since I was a kid. That makes me kinda sad, since I saw way more when I was a kid and I know at least part of that is there’s less habitat for them now.

We may have drank leaded gasoline from asbestos pipes while acid rain cleared our complexion, but we also still had loads of big empty fields for butterflies. We also saw what the EPA could do in a few years, and expected that would continue. Butterflies everywhere.

(creaky ancient Gen-X sigh)

@mwop I don’t think Tucson is a core part of their range, but it’s moreso than Washington state was.

The childhood reminiscence was from Northern California.

When there’s a whole-ass migration going on and you’re in a vehicle, they’re kinda hard to avoid.

hackers.town: 2024-08-09 Fri 16:59

Going from the first link I found, it’s part of their northward summer drive.

@genehack yep, filed in the same Holy Crap cabinet as “crows hold grudges and tell their friends what you look like”

hackers.town: 2024-08-09 Fri 18:48

@masukomi He bounces. A lot. There is also Jumpy Dog. The main difference is that Bouncy Dog is motivated by more exuberance, while Jumpy Dog is a little more nervous.

No, it’s just Jumpy Dog came first, they both look and behave similarly, so I wanted a suitably similar nickname for him.

hackers.town: 2024-08-09 Fri 18:49

@masukomi At dinner time Bouncy Dog is like frickin’ Tigger.

hackers.town: 2024-08-09 Fri 19:08

@masukomi I have similar challenges with our pups, who both get really loud when in sight of other dogs. Especially Bluncy Dog. Little pup thinks he’s a cop or something.

@shannonpersists @catsalad mine didn’t because I only have $20, and turned off overdraft protection a decade ago.

hackers.town: 2024-08-09 Fri 20:21

@shannonpersists @catsalad I vote to let it lapse, since that’s what I’ve done with mine. Got a letter today that looked a lot like a collections letter until I realized it was just Wired trying to convince me to renew in a dry font.
