Even though I got out of bed at 3am from first day jitters, making sure to not actually clock in until closer to local human hours.

Currently engaged in the fiddly bits of setting up workspace for multiple simultaneously active devices.

thank goodness for the box of random cables

It’s almost enough to make a person want to switch to Bluetooth.

Almost.

@Probertd8 O God, I could be bounded in a nutshell, and count myself a king of infinite space, were it not that I have all these fscking cables

I’m starting to build muscle memory for my automatically generated password.

hackers.town: 2024-08-12 Mon 06:48

@chris Presumably I have a few months. You know, just long enough to really drill it in.

@Probertd8 no, muscle memory

helpful buff guys at keyboard meme blank, with three frames of extremely buff dudes typing emotionally healthy advice to a young nerdy looking dude in the final frame

@chris thanks and no kidding

I am very happy. And a little nervous. But mostly happy.

@Johannab Thanks! Today’s the proper start. And “nonlinear” matches my expectations here.

My brain’s got an odd idea of work music. I think I understand why it picked this, but hey whatever. Goes well with coffee.

Don’t have my regular PKM toolkit available yet if ever on the work laptop so I’m using Apple Notes and — it’s fine actually? Formatting, tags, linking between notes, some integration with other applications.

I wouldn’t publish a blog with it or anything but still.

Describing my environs for the new coworkers. Said description summarized: heat dome! flash floods! nightly thunderstorms! kinda cool, actually.

Yeah I think I’m starting to like Tucson.

Dangit, one less reason to not use Obsidian as CMS for my public brain: Hugo has blockquote render hooks now.

@VE2UWY Nice! Just keep in mind that they’re good practices but not as useful when treated like dogma.

When you emulate the look of IKEA instructions without knowing why people like IKEA instructions.

So if I got this right I’m supposed to assemble the desk on a 1970s throw rug with one hand tied behind me. Two hands tied behind me is no go because it will warp me to the void and I will be sad.

Confusing cautionary cartoon accompanying a list of precautions for assembling an adjustable sit-stand desk.

hackers.town: 2024-08-12 Mon 16:05

@wez pretty sure that’s not how you do it either.

Tempting, though.

Dual desk dual dislplay dual keyboard setup feels a little decadent. But it’s very comfortable.

I’m grateful @IamMrsGeek ordered the extra desk I was sure I didn’t need.

Two adjustable desks placed kitty corner to each other. One has an ultrawide monitor and two keyboards under it. The other has a MacBook Pro open on a laptop stand.
