@WuMargaret at that stage you had an option to get it or not, and some went with “not.”

Some of it was access, but I absorbed everything I could from computer magazines at the library so it wasn’t just access.

But where I raise my eyebrow high is somebody five or ten years younger than me getting frazzled at a computer — forgivable, computers suck — and then apologizing with some nonsense about being too old for tech.

So ultimately I guess it’s the folks who accept powerlessness and the blame for it.

I get her frustration at finding the bugs in the tools she uses, because I know why — it’s because she’s actually putting the tools to use, exploring their capabilities and learning their limits. That’s where the bugs gather.

But how to explain that to her non-technical coworkers, for whom pretty much the whole deal is unspeakable ancient magick humans were not meant to meddle with, and her exploratory speed bumps are just proof of this.
