Good morning! Today’s #HelpfulHint

right foot goes in right shoe, left foot goes in left shoe

@WuMargaret thanks! I think it’s largely that we all go for consistent styles that emphasize the content, and avoid the gray-on-gray ant text consistently popular among “document-oriented” designs made by and for younger eyes I’m pretty sure

Barry appreciates the new desk setup. He’s not a lap cat, but he is a proximity kitty. He likes to be near his people.

It hasn’t always been an easy spot for him to get at thanks to my clutter, but the desk — or the right in the middle of whatever I’m focused on — has been one of his favorite spots since day one. #CatsOfMastodon

@_maleficentgirl had to come up with something! Neither he nor his brother are the lap cats we hoped we were getting, but they’ve got a lot of love for us.

@thegibson relatedly, there is no good OS.

unfortunately, many eyes does not make all bugs shallow

hackers.town: 2024-08-18 Sun 15:17

ear started ringing like crazy

must be a storm coming in tonight

why can’t i have a psychic knee like other old people

hackers.town: 2024-08-18 Sun 15:19

@thegibson honestly I’ve gone to “whatever’s currently on my system is fine”

Which has been an Arch derivative called EndeavourOS. And KDE Which is fine.

Could’ve just as easily been Mint at this stage of things.

hackers.town: 2024-08-18 Sun 15:55

@minego @thegibson the problem with my code is what happens when I let it out of my sight.

People always try to something novel with it, like “be productive” or some nonsense like that.

IT WASN’T MADE FOR THAT

hackers.town: 2024-08-18 Sun 16:16

Doing an unholy mish-mash of MVP.css and SiYuan CSS variables. It’s terrible. I’m quite proud of myself.

hackers.town: 2024-08-18 Sun 16:21

@minego yo

hackers.town: 2024-08-18 Sun 16:23

@minego not at the moment. I usually rename my yo files once I’ve got a better idea what I’m writing.

hackers.town: 2024-08-18 Sun 16:35

@thegibson there’s nothing more serious than a shitpost.

Wondering if there even is a phone camera that can catch the full colors of a desert sunset. These clouds were more violet than orange.

@GeoffWozniak there was an iOS app called Camera+ that could be set to capture a Pacific Northwest sunset admirably. I’ve lost track of this app over a couple budget tightenings. No idea whether it’s as good now as it was then, or how it would do in the desert.

hackers.town: 2024-08-18 Sun 20:34

@deco doing RAW capture will come closest. I’ll have to putter around with that!

hackers.town: 2024-08-18 Sun 20:49

@deco iPhone 12 stock photo app. Pondering Camera+ or Halide as an alternative. Had good experience with Camera+ oh five or six years ago.

And yeah, the transfer & tweak workflow isn’t exactly conducive to microblogging. But it may be worth pondering anyways.

@jack @ubernostrum @bitprophet my projects explicitly have an audience of one.

Unfortunately he’s very hard to please.
