Casting, wardrobe, and vibe are freakishly spot-on.

SATURDAY NIGHT - New Trailer (HD) - YouTube

hackers.town: 2024-09-14 Sat 06:07

@shadowhand I’ve got a USB switcher, but the delay is just enough that I lose my flow. Lower setup is for whichever’s primary focus (work or personal), while top is always connected to personal system for notes, chat, and music.

And thanks!

hackers.town: 2024-09-14 Sat 06:08

@flyingsaceur of course not. They banned them after the incident in 1996.

hackers.town: 2024-09-14 Sat 06:08

@grmpyprogrammer Been a couple years, and I still get the same vibes using it.

hackers.town: 2024-09-14 Sat 06:40

@bmac IMDB lists cast for Billy Crystal, though I didn’t see anything for Eddie Murphy.

hackers.town: 2024-09-14 Sat 06:40

@flyingsaceur sometimes, but I know that’s the path of pain.

Seeing a bump in #PKM videos by folks who made the same mistakes most first-timers make: take notes on absolutely everything regardless of whether it’s relevant to your needs, obsess over structure, and don’t actually do anything with the notes. They then scrap that setup and start over with a more focused approach and a less distracting workflow.

So far so good.

But rather than “oh hey I’ve hit on a nigh-universal cycle of accumulation and prioritization in knowledge management,” they decide that accumulation and prioritization are unrelated processes and I’m pretty sure they’re about to sell me PKM–

hackers.town: 2024-09-14 Sat 08:16

A common refrain in these PKM– presentations is how a second brain won’t make you more productive.

no kidding?

I guess this is the #ADHD in me, but I’m not taking these notes to be more “productive.” I’m taking them to have hooks for what I was doing yesterday, what I thought might be interesting last week, what I was hoping about a year ago, and occasionally to decide maybe this thing over here isn’t so interesting after all.

Like — it’s a project log, and the project is me. Different motive, different outcome.

hackers.town: 2024-09-14 Sat 08:33

@movation exactly for me as well. If a faithful Zettelkasten adaptation or whatever serves someone’s needs more power to them I say. I tried, they didn’t serve my needs, I adjusted my approach.

@mwop I’m so bad at the task management features of any note tool that I’ve basically given up. Over the years my journal’s evolved from having a “Tasks” section with carefully specified entries, to a “Plan” section with specified entries, to a “Plan” section with a bullet point list of minimally annotated descriptions.

hackers.town: 2024-09-14 Sat 08:46

@mwop though I ponder a lot about digging deep into Org again for that agenda view.

hackers.town: 2024-09-14 Sat 08:54

@christian Weather forecast today here in Arizona is a mild 36C and my body continues to deny that 36C is mild.

hackers.town: 2024-09-14 Sat 10:46

Amused myself so much I wanted to pin this outside the conversation I made it for.

#PKM

Always Sunny Charlie conspiracy theory meme, with manic-looking dude waving a cigarette and pointing at a clutter of connected notes; caption reads “POV: I’m showing you my knowledge management system”

hackers.town: 2024-09-14 Sat 10:52

@billseitz “undefined: undefined” is an accurate analysis of my process

hackers.town: 2024-09-14 Sat 10:59

Said it before and I’ll say it again: pretty much guaranteed to be annoyed by your documentation site that hijacks C-f, C-k, and / or /.

hackers.town: 2024-09-14 Sat 11:49

@mwop yah a lot of my task handling is about routing through my particular brain. I have a nasty tendency to file automated reminders in the same bucket as text messages and Web advertising. But if I write down the task as a normal sentence or fragment without the tooling, it’s more likely to stay floating near the top of my head.

There’s an upper limit, obviously. But it works for daily planning. For longer-term stuff or scheduling, I’ll still use Logseq’s support for LATER : NOW : DONE|CANCELED

Amazon delivery sent a nice photo of my ADHD-addled order being dropped off at our old house 1,500 miles away.

That neighborhood had a bad habit of swiping packages. Hope they need or find someone with cash who needs headset and trackball.

hackers.town: 2024-09-14 Sat 11:55

@thegibson mhm

Been going to bsky instead of my big server alt because sure bsky sucks but they also are doing a better job handling features, fixes, and moderation than Mastodon prime (and mastodon dot social)

I still like ActivityPub, but I don’t think Mastodon or direct derivatives are my preferred path for that.

hackers.town: 2024-09-14 Sat 13:30

Exploring town a little with @IamMrsGeek

Went to a (busy!) gaming store where we were treated to a friendly infodump by the owner in multiple installments (I think because I seemed receptive instead of shooing him away).

Came out with a big Munchkins box because it’s a name I know and she made me buy something.

Edit: the store ➡️ https://isleofgamesaz.com/

@Alice I know I wasn’t. I was the politest little angel.

With a penchant for shoplifting, petty crime, and arson.

So uh yeah maybe.

hackers.town: 2024-09-14 Sat 14:50

@Sh4d0w_H34rt @thegibson I have enjoyed Akkoma and I hear good things about GoToSocial.

But Mastodon sucks up a lot of the ActivityPub-for-general-social-media oxygen, and projects have to either serve substantially different core functions (ex: pixelfed) or make do with fewer hands and every incompatibility with Mastodon filed as a bug.

hackers.town: 2024-09-14 Sat 17:47

my goodness this is some terrible python code and it’s not even mine

hackers.town: 2024-09-14 Sat 19:50

for shame

hackers.town: 2024-09-14 Sat 20:06

@msh I mean

So did leaded gasoline and CFCs. Then we figured out those were bad ideas.

hackers.town: 2024-09-14 Sat 20:06

@lordbowlich It’s a living.

hackers.town: 2024-09-14 Sat 20:09

@msh that does seem within the realm of possibility.

hackers.town: 2024-09-14 Sat 20:10

@flyingsaceur depends on where you see this block, but yeah basically

hackers.town: 2024-09-14 Sat 21:01

Formally giving up on scheduled sleep with the Apple Watch. I wasnt cooperating with it anyways.
