Yesterday was leaf blowers. Today is hedge trimmers.

AFFiNE is worth checking out.

Whatever features it’s missing, however lacking the docs are, however many typos are in those docs, however they managed to stumble on one of the few naming conventions more annoying than vowel removal—

Open source app, default free behavior is local-only, and most important of all: disabling the AI feature and components promoting it is a toggle in settings.

@munin and even Perl has idioms, paths carved out so thoroughly by predecessors they become accepted standards, like water carving a river.

@voidedmain Now’s just about the best time to enjoy it. I got into No Man’s Sky a few years ago, and it was already far better than what I’d heard on launch.

And it’s only improved since then, with a couple sizable updates per year.

After 300 or so hours I’m not spending as much time in it, as Minecraft with mods does the nigh-infinite procedural world a bit better. But I haven’t cast it aside!

I shouldn’t be so judgmental. Most of this code was written before LSPs were a thing.

Also linters apparently.

I know I’ll walk the dogs by myself and let her get some quiet rest.

And of course the second I open the door both dogs immediately go into extended full volume at a passing neighbor dog.

I noticed at least one vision-impaired person at the dang huge work event thing, so I remembered alt text when uploading a photo to work slack today.

hackers.town: 2024-10-04 Fri 20:14

@m yes! A thing I learned today when I thought I’d check.

hackers.town: 2024-10-04 Fri 20:16

@m well here’s hoping Microsoft Teams is as enthusiastic about paying lip service to accessibility in the middle of a frustratingly inaccessible application as Slack.

hackers.town: 2024-10-04 Fri 20:18

@m oh pish and piffle. Ain’t nobody as good as Microsoft at enthusiastic lip service wrapped in a package that runs in the opposite direction.

Why just look at all they’ve done for open source!

Kindly concern from @IamMrsGeek about whether she might disturb my code work.

“No, not at all! This is work code but I’m puttering and having fun with it. Or — uh — my kind of fun anyways.”

I’m wild on Friday night again.

@genehack Closest I’ve got to that feel is Modest Mouse, except I definitely get it.

Fire It Up by Modest Mouse

Folks on Genius doing this deep metaphorical analysis and okay maybe but also it hooks in too tightly to too many of my young adult weekends to be all philosophy.

@phildini @cam I went with Mozilla because the steady degradation of Firefox (and MDN) has had a more direct impact on my own Web workflows.

But I can totally see 75% of longtime bloggers making the same argument for Automattic.
