My favorite bit:
“an investigation by Retail Dive found that the [National Retail Federation]’s annual theft analysis was based on a misinterpretation of its own data.”
Facial Recognition That Tracks Suspicious Friendliness Is Coming to a Store Near You

@mhd If I got it right, this is an Israeli company’s usage of unknown data to support and enforce a dubious assertion made by a US org about its own cooked numbers.
It shouldn’t fly anywhere, but somebody’s gonna staple wings on it and throw it out there anyways.

I do enjoy the soundtracks my brain pulls out for whatever I’m reading.
🎵 The next time you see two women running out the Gap🎵 With arms full of clothes still strapped to the rack🎵 Once they jump in the car, hit the gas and scat🎵 If you have to say something, just stand and clap

@tek for your convenience (and anybody else’s because holy crap it comes up a lot)

Kind of awkward that the most stressful meeting of my week is on the same day as all those job listing newsletters that I subscribed to over the last couple years.
(The meeting’s not good or bad on its own, just a very Red Dwarf S4E3 “Justice” kind of vibe)

@nileane I have no idea whether that’s good or bad – I don’t know how Apple treats its acquisitions.
But dang that’s big. Pixelmator Pro has been in my toolkit for a long time.

@tek @emc2 I wasn’t literally there at the beginning of course. Slack 96?
But I’ve forgotten things most never have to learn, like configuring memory allocation to ignore bad chunks on the cheap-ass RAM I had.

@tek part of why I’m mad at Wayland is I finally got the muscle memory to look under xorg/ for config

@m I’ve also used “way ahead of you”

@m Good deal! I’ve noticed the security theater tends to move a little quicker now compared to early days.

Sure would be nice if my “communicating with humans” and “understanding code” neurons had better diplomatic relations, so I didn’t have to pass through customs every time I need to switch context.

Pic from @IamMrsGeek showing Bouncy Dog and Jumpy Dog over here doing their best Merry & Pippin “yes but what about elevensies?” except it’s for walks.

“Which video card do you plan on replacing?”
Me: “the one in my computer”
I give such helpful answers sometimes.
hackers.town: 2024-11-01 Fri 16:48
@darius alas.
Well, we had a good run.

I have made what feels like progress. Pushing changes, forcibly detaching from work, and eating food. Maybe some video games.
