Wondering how long before and how much the current international fuckery will impact the exchange of FOSS between countries?
I really like SiYuan. It’s from China. Code’s on GitHub and they have non-China servers for external users of their paid service.
Not something I’d think much about, beyond frustrations with existing sanction-based constraints. But we’re seeing that the current administration’s as xenophobic as it is transphobic. And the transphobia’s got them purging scientific data.
I don’t really think they’re gonna have a self-imposed stopping point.

Signal Desktop spent several minutes “syncing contacts and groups” and why? I’ve had maybe three discussions on the platform in ten years, and no current contacts.

Maybe it’s that Fedi folks are better about using content warnings. Maybe @thegibson picked the right servers to defederate from. Regardless of how narrow or global the cause, the folks I see in the Fediverse are pacing themselves for the long haul.
In comparison, my bsky feed is a fscking nightmare sprint of pain, hot takes about rumors, and screenshots of horrible tweets. Can’t take more than a minute or two of it.
