Unlike one common neurodivergent stereotype, I adore small talk.
About 30-45 seconds of it. Then I’m done and trying to escape.

when you cram as many words into a second as I do sometimes, 30-45 seconds of conversation can cover a lot of weather.

Using Ruff instead of Pylance and already I like VS Code more.

@genehack remember the olden days of the white-on-white AOL spike footer?

Chatting with mom about current events and learned that her house was part of the underground railroad back in the day.
Fascinating to have a home old enough to have that kind of history attached to it.

Just jumped into my head unrequested.

Bouncy Dog really needed to go for a walk. Barry wanted to make sure he knew it would be okay.
(Yes, the pups got their walk)

Closest we’ve gotten to an argument in recent memory and it’s me trying to wash the dishes when she thinks I should be studying.
I love Mrs Geek a lot.

astro + fastapi + htmx + _hyperscript + tailwind + postgres + wait hang on i smell smoke is that my brain
ah I do so love reducing complexity
though the first few steps can be a little rough
hackers.town: 2025-02-12 Wed 14:32
oooooh
…
that looks awful
thank you tailwind
but hey aside from that, Astro is talking via htmx to a FastAPI server connected to PostgreSQL for simplistic full-text search
those are links btw
also I need to look into better relevance sorting

I have passed some Node.js dependency complexity threshold where sometimes my Astro site builds and sometimes it doesn’t. Can’t get mad at Astro because I’m finding actual errors in my stuff. But – errors that one would expect to have been noticed by my build system at some point in the last month.
(classic “why is this broken” to “how did this ever work” cycle there)

no but for reals, stumbling my way through htmx, postgres FTS, and FastAPI, while continuing to be mad at Tailwind? In one day?
It’s a lot.

Better be careful. If I make much more progress I’ll have to deploy it. Which will require more learning.

I did not anticipate that my shared host would be using PostgreSQL 10.23.
Current is v17. Spanking new, so I wouldn’t expect that. But v10 hit EOL two years ago.

Well dang. I won’t be able to actually deploy this bit of niftiness to the current host without a lot more fiddling than I feel like doing.
