Dawn of a glorious garbage day

The sun makes itself known long before you can see it.

Dawn sky over suburban housing development in the desert, with clouds tinted orange and violet by a sun still hidden behind mountains

We have plenty to be cranky about these days. Honestly? Yeah I make time for that. But also, I have seen some of the most amazing sunrises and sunsets since moving to Tucson.

Even on garbage day, with a bit of carnage from the javelinas enjoying buffet night.

I just spent a week being mad at Tailwind. Turns out? it me for not manually scanning deps. That 4.0.0-beta vite integration won’t get automatically updated to stable no matter how many times I run npm up.

Python project management is a nightmare of abundance. Node project management is a nightmare of tracking dependencies and then also tracking the integrations between those dependencies.

(posting it like this because I’m pretty sure I missed an npm flag or alternate tool, and my Internet’s pretty good about telling me what I did wrong)

Congrats on the sponsored video I guess?

Gotta pay out better than their NFT idea.

Today’s web site silliness: added a light/dark toggle with hyperscript, saving preference to browser localStorage.

I’ll make it more smarterer later. Mainly needed it for when I’m comparing my own color schemes.

A blog site front page, with dark background. A button in the top right corner reads “Light/Dark”

Parsing both markdown sources and HTML for my search thing (for metadata and rendered content, respectively). Realized I could simplify that by putting the most important metadata in the generated HTML.

Got three lines into a nested component structure when I realized I already have the most important metadata identified in the generated HTML, via microformats2 classes.

Thanks, past me!

Petition to start calling the gulf “Chactemal.” I have not yet found a citation backing the claim that this was the Mayan name for the water and not just the name for the province bordering the water.

But it’s a way cooler name.
