@neko Yeah my spouse had to summon me somewhere around midnight because I went into puzzle-solving mode.

“Infrastructure as Code” introducing me to a new flavor of dependency hell.

For business communication I still prefer TIAS to FAFO but I’m old-fashioned like that.

Getting work done and meanwhile that other part of my brain is fiddling with the fidget toy and going “you know they’re all block-based editors when you think about it.”

Starting to understand why the BDFL is such a common component of FOSS projects.

In one window is some AWS documentation. In another window is the Chinese language README for a SiYuan widget.

Not sure which takes more effort to read.

At least I have a “translate page” option for the README.

Air’s a little cleaner which is nice and naturally someone is celebrating with fireworks.

ಠ_ಠ at “join the waitlist” for open source projects.

You got a public repo, right? Push what you got and call it 0.001 — or 0.0.1 if you’re into semver.

Or “I’ll release when it’s ready” and a notification option.

Leave “waitlist” phrasing to the startups.

hackers.town: 2022-09-11 Sun 07:49

Or if you’re like me and you know you’ll never actually release anything, make it a series of blog posts someone else can smash into their project.

#TIL there’s a tree-sitter binding for Racket. Could be a dangerous opportunity to retarget some of my terrible ideas.

Scene: us, eating dinner

Me: Do you have a — thing?

She: Nope.

Me: [hands her a napkin]

She: Thank you!

Surest sign we were destined to be together is that she knows WTF I’m talking about when nobody else has a clue — including me.

Figured out that Loud Dog has a snooze button. She starts whining for you to get up, you give her skritches, and she leaves you alone for about ten minutes.

Using VS Code for a thing because it’s easier. Scrub mouse over a thing. Usage tooltip includes “Thoughts? 😀 Take a survey!”

Someone at Microsoft misses being the bad guy.

hackers.town: 2022-09-08 Thu 10:26

So anyways no I didn’t take the embedded VS Code survey. Not yet anyways.

First I need to put down the hammer, grab the spare laptop, and apologize to those folks who react with violence to unexpected spiders.

Tonight’s wind-down activity: a little JS, a little justfile, a little Sass, a little “translate page,” and I figured out how to generate many #SiYuanNote themes from Base16 schemes.

Clearly any knowledge is dangerous in my hands.

Note app with pink tints from Base16 “Sakura” and a terminal with some CSS open, and a file explorer with dozens of base16 theme folders for the notes app

Yesterday, she sees a property ad & sends a casual HOA-related question.

The pushy AF texts & emails — and just now a specifically unrequested phone call — she has received in response tells me all I need to know about Seattle’s property market right now.

Always proud of myself when I accurately gauge the dogs’ need to pee.

hackers.town: 2022-09-05 Mon 20:46

Probably my biggest frustration with most of the knowledge management apps out there — in coverage if not impact — is how limited their code block support is.

“What no autoindent? No LSP? Only 4 dozen programming languages highlighted? What is this 1993?”

hackers.town: 2022-09-05 Mon 20:52

Your note app’s kernel is in Go? I dunno, put Chroma in and send the AST back and forth with the electron editor front-end. Sure it’ll suck all my CPU but then you’ll only be missing half a dozen of the languages I use regularly.
