@sohkamyung I didn’t really have much trouble reading Perl until working at big companies where too many felt the need to be clever.

@fractumseraph you never know! I bittorrented a bunch of early programming books 15 years ago, and opened one for the first time the other day, trying to understand some discrete math stuff I found!

Two pages of notes about tools and project ideas. Many browser tabs.
I remember that I still need to find the work file I was looking for an hour ago, which started this whole thing.

@rabcyr I do love Malabrigo.
Oy I need to work through this pile of crap yarn I have so I can start buying the good stuff again.
hackers.town: 2019-12-12 Thu 10:41
@rabcyr those good yarns
those are the projects that people tell me feel like I’m giving them an all day hug

I enjoy reading the movie summaries from Central Cinema here in Seattle.

@mwlucas Grammar checkers are a hindrance. Mainly I need a human proofreader or editor to tell me I’ve slipped into incoherence. Grammar? I already know which of those rules I’m breaking.

It’s a challenge. Propaganda is engineered to spread. This place is engineered to make us want to spread propaganda undifferentiated from any other meme.
Makes me kinda squeamish if I think about it too much.

Adding a new checklist for any future job hunt: find out who a potential employer takes money from.
Call it a culture fit requirement.

That has at least two questions. Maybe more, I am not good at math.
- Who are their customers?
- Who are their investors?

@Pendragon alas, I speak too often and in portable bytecode assembled JIT by a Perl script that I lost the code for years ago.
Just the same: welcome!

@Miredly Firefox doesn’t want to play the video, but the still sure looks interesting. Welcome!
hackers.town: 2019-12-12 Thu 19:13
@Miredly That looks awesome! Yeah, I often have trouble with embedded video on here. Don’t know whether to blame Firefox or Mastodon, so usually I just ignore it.

@thegibson the name is, for sure. The hairstyle, not so much. Unless they’re plucking the hairs out. Then I might give them a little credit.

@ella_kane The most important thing is to stay true to the values you hold dear, so stick with that.
(Most of) my European ancestors came to America in the first trailer parks basically. Been living on the wrong side of the river since the 17th Century. Appropriation has always been a bit of a muddle for me.

Inheritance? Single mom with no real backup? My only inheritance will be her bad attitude and this chip on my shoulder when she gets lumped in with Those boomers.
