This whole thread but right here -
the majority of my career isn’t adding features or streamlining logic assumptions or even fixing good old fashioned bugs.
It’s trying to put out the dumpster fire that was somebody’s Cool Shit Project 1-10+ years ago.

- I admit with the appropriate level of shame that I have contributed my own Cool Shit Dumpster Fires. Recently, even.
I’m working on it, though.

I hated myspace and geocities and all that screen glitter and the burning logos.
I hate what we have now more, though. Just as hard to find what I need through all the mail room photocopied newsletter aesthetic, but nothing to entertain me while I struggle.

And as long as we’re making full admission here
I’m not sure I want to sit and think about how many times I tried to put out a dumpster fire by either
throwing additional trash on with a quick fix
or replacing it with a bigger brighter dumpster fire.

Trying to remember what I was doing before the slack notifications.

Especially entertaining since, until very recently, starting a line with an asterisk was sufficient to create a list item in slack.

Huh. Tried design by contract for some safety rails in a utility script. These assertions are kinda like TDD for tasks.
(Since some might be curious: using Deal library with Python)

What people don’t understand: my low-value low-interest technical posts are my shitposts.
If I only posted the good stuff I’d have way too many followers.

Persistent honest description of the consequences of my actions.
But. It took me a couple years to listen, a couple more to understand, and a couple more to take it seriously.
Not sure I’d endorse anyone committing to the emotional labor of reaching a young me.

The video is a lot more interesting than the hot take I wanted to blurt.

Got a work thing I’m working on.
Got a me thing I’ve been working on.
Brain hurts. Went to lay down.
Suddenly inspired with possible fix for work thing I put on back burner weeks ago.
Brains are magic, in a monkey’s paw sort of way.

Some of the loud cars are expensive, modified with careful intent, polished with satin and angel farts.
Some are held together with duct tape and prayer, engines perhaps making peace with impending death.
My ears have no idea which is which.

@rabcyr This is the very specific loud of small vehicles souped up and/or worn down to a constant rattle and pop.
