Even my brain knows I don’t have enough time to play with this yet.

But maybe somebody else out there wants to play with a Rust-backed alternative to Electron for desktop JS apps?

@nolan I don’t have concrete knowledge, but I’m dealing with a similar challenge.

I’m looking at the Nix package manager as an alternative to brew for both personal env and isolated project workspaces (without pulling out docker).

@nolan right right but I’m not sure it addresses sandboxing, which was the actual question. Sorry about that. As you were.

For a sandbox, probably containers.

@thegibson Same. Between that and a Twitter thread this morning about traditional Pasifika navigation, I’m feeling the call of the ocean.

But it’s probably sunny or some shit like that. Never mind.

@thegibson @zpojqwfejwfhiunz ye gods that really is tempting.

I can be a reclusive shut-in anywhere. Sure could be fun to do it somewhere warm.

@thegibson @zpojqwfejwfhiunz (plus we’re paying $3,200/month for a Seattle 2BR apartment which is cheap if you want to see trees out your window instead of I-5)

@erosdiscordia @thegibson @zpojqwfejwfhiunz The coffee’s settled in a bit better now, so to clarify: there are cheaper places within city limits. Nice ones, even. Much more expensive too obviously.

But this was about the average price w/o trade-offs like “nearest grocery store is miles away” or “street racers love your block.”

@erosdiscordia @thegibson @zpojqwfejwfhiunz oh god me too. Lived in Seattle since 1999. Rent for our 1BR was $650.

Cheapest 1BR in that neighborhood now? $1,750.

But hey at least I’m not in San Francisco.

Get an error.

Change a number in a config setting.

Get a different error.

Is it better? Is it worse? Is it maybe the same?

I don’t know.
