@neltnerb @feoh@cybre.space Art, you say? Hang on.

Well I was going to point you at an art boosting account I follow, but now I can’t find it. I wondered why I wasn’t seeing anything from them.

Have you checked the mastodon.art profile directory? Lots of great folks in there.

@neltnerb @feoh@cybre.space I tend to explore by default, so I’ll see interesting stuff from someone, wonder if it’s common for the instance their on — it often is — and look at their instance for more accounts to follow here.

hackers.town: 2020-07-13 Mon 10:18

@neltnerb oh hey that toot about trying to follow someone. It went away. Did you figure it out?

hackers.town: 2020-07-13 Mon 10:22

@neltnerb Sure! For me the most confusing part of federated social networks is trying to follow someone on another instance.

Someone mentioned in a conversation? No problem! Someone whose profile you just found? That’ll be a follow then auth and “follow this time i really mean it” please.

hackers.town: 2020-07-13 Mon 12:05

@neltnerb Could be some differences in our respective cookie / JS settings, but here are my two follow paths.

When I select your @ or profile name in a toot displayed on my timeline, it opens a profile column with your details and a “Follow” button. That’s how I added you.

When I go directly to https://mastodon.mit.edu/@neltnerb, I see a “Follow” button because my identity doesn’t carry over to http://mastodon.mit.edu. I put in my handle randomgeek@hackers.town and “Proceed to Follow” for auth. Course, I’m already following, and it tells me so. But this would be where I confirm the follow.

@neltnerb Should be the same in Firefox or Chrome. I just have Chrome open because I’m on the clock and it’s the new IE.

yep that is for sure the slow way to do bulk record creation in django

just double checking to make sure

hackers.town: 2020-07-13 Mon 19:21

It’s really hard not to keep puttering with the admin view in Django.

Loud Dog is a #perl dog now. You can see she’s very enthusiastic about it.

Still bright enough out that the comet is a possibly-hallucinated scratch of white just out the corner of my eye. Maybe give it a few more minutes.

Comet over #WestSeattle

No it’s not a great photo but every year the camera in my pocket computer is a little better. That’s pretty cool.

hackers.town: 2020-07-13 Mon 23:37

I’m impressed I saw anything at all, what with all the ambient light. Dark is the one thing I miss most after 20 years in Seattle.
