I’m on TweetDeck ‘cause that’s how I look at the birb site, right, and I click a link into Twitter proper and was their dark mode always so dark. There was something about a redesign? It’s not like shouting but like a person talking too loud even though you’re right there.

@gannet My guess is these sites are going for a 100 Lighthouse score. It has a test for insufficient contrast https://web.dev/color-contrast/, but the test and guidelines say nothing about excessive contrast, and you get no points for the subtleties. So that’s what they shoot for.

Today I’m learning more about the Lighthouse accessibility test and its limitations.

https://web.dev/color-contrast/ tests for insufficient contrast, but there’s no corresponding test for excessive contrast. Which may be why I get eye strain at those sites w/ a 100 score.

@gannet well heck. If it doesn’t apply to at least one of the two suspects I have handy, then that’s probably not it.

Evaluating somebody’s Web site as kind of a favor. Got this laundry list of things to fix or improve. Feeling bad, so I add an item to counterbalance.

@gannet It make sense. For starters, some folks just like different. Plus, higher contrast black and white means less to decode.

But that thing you shared about astigmatism whoo boy yeah that’s core of my issues. Mild astigmatism, but combine with aging eyes and high contrast + crisp fonts, there’s my eye strain and other folks’ migraines.

@gannet holy crap.

Left my last Rimworld colonists to their emotionally scarred lives, to start up a new batch.

Gordon The Pirate Leroy’d in right after our three colonists established themselves as paying customers of Vadim The Arms Dealer.

Good customer service from Vadim. Prompt!
