Hm. There was a power outage last night and now the PC won’t turn on. This does not seem good.
hackers.town: 2024-01-21 Sun 07:34
@IamMrsGeek Yep! Started by making sure it was plugged in first even though THAT HAS NEVER ONCE BEEN AN ISSUE THAT I FORGOT TO CHECK FOR IN THE PAST (awkward cough)
Have also tried different outlet and different power cable. Then spent a few minutes fiddling with the laptop setup, since I haven’t hooked it up to the monitor since before the previous job.
Next step involves examining internal cables but that ain’t happening until after I finish at least one cup of coffee.

@Mnemonic Me too. I got an underpowered spare, but it’s sufficient to at least let me reach POST. If so, I can order new once I’m working again. If not, I can take it to a shop once I’m working again. Yay for backups and for the MBP I was just wondering if I’d ever actually use.
Really fiddly checks like PSU checks are postponed until I reach something closer to full consciousness.

Oh. My. Fucking. God.
Remember how I mentioned every time I boot into Windows, Steam automatically starts Dead Cells for some reason?
If you’ve been around me a while, maybe you remember how the motherboard power connector on my PC refuses to seat firmly, and the GPU fan sometimes spins so much that it unseats said power connector just enough that it stays alive while on, but won’t boot once shut off?
MYSTERY SUFFICIENTLY SOLVED
Probably wasn’t Dead Cells. Could’ve been some other game I played since the last time I booted into Windows. Could’ve been a particularly demanding shader in Minecraft. Hell, could’ve been one of the locally hosted LLM explorations.
Been long enough since the motherboard power thing happened that I actually forgot about it.
Now I gotta plug all these other connectors back in.

@gizmomathboy wondering if ordering a new cable would help. I have no idea whether the floppiness is from the motherboard or the cable.

Dead Cells weirdness seems to have been fixed by jiggling the handle on the cache.

@boris it’s good stuff. Still need a layer of processing for newer Obsidian specifics like callouts and embedded YouTube. But handles links to notes and attachments very well, which was the big challenge.

Render hook parameters survive through Obsidian → obsidian-export → Hugo
Maybe if I pretend the neighbor kids outside are screaming in joy at my victory I will wish less ill upon them.

@IamMrsGeek This never happens to me!
He said, the 10th or 11th time it had happened in the last year.

@forensicgarlic @Viss Are we sure it’s AI? Sounds like the sort of recipe a cat would come up with.

@bitprophet It’s not cooked enough to pull out of the oven, but the work so far is at https://github.com/brianwisti/rgb-brain-hugo

@bitprophet System I came up with is any new undesignated page goes in a private limbo. So a page isn’t public until I’ve decided it is.

@zwol @g and the security fun, since every Electron app is basically a Chromium browser, and it is uncommon for Electron apps to be using freshest release.

@eaton and “we”
which honest I did not think would be so hard to pin down a few decades ago
hackers.town: 2024-01-21 Sun 18:28
@zwol @g Yeah sorry I took your “it’s a burning coal seam fire” and added “also it’s hot” but that’s an admirable reply of grace on your part

@rekiwi most folks make that mistake once or twice
hackers.town: 2024-01-21 Sun 19:49
@IamMrsGeek I will flash my dimples during my next interview. How can they possibly resist?

@almibe dammit

There is a dizzying amount of meta in the construction of this page.
