Woke up pondering weird workflows for the shared hosting setup my site is on for the next few years and realized net/http/cgi is a thing that exists in Go.

Successfully building muscle memory for using WezTerm as my terminal multiplexer over the last few days, using C-space as my leader key and then setting up a keymap that looks a bit like my ancient tmux customizations.

@denis I hope you enjoy! Black Rider was one of my favorites for a long time, though it was a little polarizing in my circle of Tom Waits fans.

@farah restarting a game any time I miss more than a month is a seriously frustrating habit I have.

Today’s wish is for folks – and by folks I mean me – to stop using Web search for programming language docs when I can get that info via CLI.

Perl: perldoc

Python: pydoc

Go: go doc

Pydoc and godoc let you drill down to a specific package / class / function, showing docs for whatever granularity you’re at.

@gannet Wish I had more direct experience for you. I lived West Sound, South Sound, and East Sound, but never did live in North Sound though I considered it frequently.

You’d be close enough to consider day trips to Anacortes, the lovely San Juan Islands, and Canada!

@gannet In very general “life in the PNW” advice, if you’re moving in winter be ready for SAD. It’ farther north than anywhere else in the lower 48 states, so winter days are short and grey.

Made the dreaded requisite “open to work” post on LinkedIn and within seconds got multiple private messages from recruiters all asking the slightest variations on “what motivates your search?”

Wondering whether I’d find too many fingers or maybe not enough ears if I looked close at their profile pics.

Play is creative. Ideally playgrounds are too. I would’ve loved a few of these as a kid – or slightly less brittle adult.

Another app duct taping an AI LLM chatbot instead of tuning the core experience. Got some snark in mind.

Let me find the Sirius Cybernetics “plastic pal who’s fun to be with” line from HHGTTG, and – (record scratch)

“their fundamental design flaws are completely hidden by their superficial design flaws”

Oh. Well that pretty much covers it.

@Remittancegirl I don’t have such a painfully personal connection, but yeah.

As a kid I knew adults who had polio as children, including one of my mom’s boyfriends who was just a little older than her and caught it before the vaccine. Crutches and braces weren’t common, but they were familiar. And the families who still mourned a brother or sister.

I wish app devs would stop describing floating tabs and floating sidebars as some kind of new accessibility feature or distraction-free experience, rather than a UX component with a higher cognitive cost (ok there’s the sidebar now click carefully or you’ll make it disappear; which tab is my web page again?) that you added because you think it looks cool.

@woozle @Catvalente I’m careful about getting nostalgic because yeah I was broke the whole way through, unrecognized ADHD, pop culture in the first half was about how much everything sucked as the Boomers had started gripping everything harder, and, and, and
