Finally got enough brain cells free from work to pull out the #knitting.

I could be modest about the work I’ve been getting done, but that would be a lie.

I may be going a little fast and loose what with being the only dev on the project, but thank goodness I still have enough sense to keep the work in branches.

Used the phrase “combinatorial explosion” in response to a feature request.

hackers.town: 2020-09-23 Wed 10:58

Okay now that I’m using links where my brain thinks a tag should go? Obsidian is super useful.

hackers.town: 2020-09-23 Wed 11:04

@genehack it was a great way to present my reluctance about adding said feature in exactly the way they described.

Then we talked through how to provide the same functionality without so much pain (for the users and for me).

They didn’t ask for specific content or format.

[insert half-hearted evil laugh]

I’ll just drop a summary view in RST.

Incidentally, Python+Django is very nice but I know for a fact the tests and probably several other bits would be much faster in Perl+(not catalyst please god).

Something I think about while waiting for pytest to finish this last run.

Bedtime was a few hours ago so I think I’ll go sleep for a bit.

hackers.town: 2020-09-21 Mon 13:25

Brain crossed wires for a second there mixing a post about Oregon wildfires with another about open source participation and handed me “Nine die in Open Source wildfires.”

Might be time to close the social media tabs for a bit.

Is there a class-based email approach in Django?

congratulations, little utility script. You’ve been promoted to library!

Probably should’ve done that at the start for testing, but constant babysitting is almost as good as testing.

Goodness but every crowd for a demo is different. I can see how some folks get hooked on giving talks. Gives you more opportunities to refine how you look at that thing you thought you knew.

Gave another demo of the same thing to a different batch of people. It also didn’t suck, but mainly wanted to note: their feedback and requests were pretty much opposite those of the first batch.

Screen sharing during a meeting and they got to see both my Notion task board and my Zettlr braindump view. Pretty proud of my work really.

What I’m saying is don’t expect shame if you walk in on me right when I get out of the shower.
