As time goes on the odds increase that you’ll get cravings for something very specific that’s unavailable in your area or was discontinued years ago.

I could go for a Jolt Cola.

The most scientifically accurate assessments of #GenX

I greatly enjoyed the defensiveness in the comments. I know, I know. Don’t read the comments. Whatever.

@dys_morphia Camus sort of saved my existential bacon with the whole absurd man thing, which I opted to interpret as “life may be meaningless and ultimately futile, but you don’t have to be a dick about it.”

@tithonium Do you have the community plugin “Plugin Update Tracker” installed?

Oh right right for the tweaking. Yep, I bump into that too sometimes.

hackers.town: 2023-11-17 Fri 09:50

@tithonium I was enjoying Readwise for a while, but noticed I didn’t use much of the stuff I was highlighting. For the moment it’s the Markdownload browser extension, but since I’ve recently started a stim of “load random page and see if it needs processing” I might add Readwise (or Omnivore? don’t know it yet but yeah that looks maybe better) back to the mix.

reassuring folks that I can use our linting tools in Vim or from the command line and disliking VS Code a little more than I did yesterday, since they seem doubtful / confused that ruff is usable outside the VS Code extension?

I am genuinely unsettled by the degree of culture clash.

Dunno what the big deal about numpad is. It’s just a convenience layer. Jeez. Don’t tap “num” if you don’t like it.

(But also anything involving numbers is way easier with a numpad. The QWERTY top row defaulting to numeric is the intrusive vestigial functionality)

@onelson @rabcyr Honestly? Way too many left-leaning buzzwords and a bit of moral absolutism at the tail end has me thinking it’s a troll account and he wasn’t born in 1988.

Seeing some strong arguments in favor of tabs over spaces as an accessibility issue via @zachleat & @BryceWrayTX & others and heck. It’s a good point.

First impression of #StrandedAlienDawn is a little bit of Rimworld, in that if you know how to play Rimworld (or Oxygen Not Included or or) you basically know how to play this. Also, a little bit of the Sims because of the 3D, except you’re making the pretty decorations yourself.

It’s

SIMSWORLD

Stranded: Alien Dawn needs a Simlish mod.

hackers.town: 2023-11-12 Sun 12:55

@ceejbot Just grabbed it today, but apparently the latest release includes multistory buildings. Kind of a biggie for the genre, and an even bigger Sims-like similarity.

@mjgardner @seatek I mean that’s lovely but a) I don’t need 2.3 EiB I just need 294KB; b) I’ve noticed Emacs can load a big buffer but it too gets fussy around the 2 GB mark.

hackers.town: 2023-11-11 Sat 08:55

@mjgardner @seatek anyways Sublime Text handled the file just fine last night

@mjgardner I’m similar to @seatek in that I don’t any editor loyalty. I’ll drift from one to another depending on what’s available or interesting.
