@thegibson I got another one bit by that Mastodon “suspend” bug. I got a script idea to check for more automatically, but it needs sufficiently round tuits and testing. But this one I noticed because of seeing his posts over on my little server.
And of course the part of data science where I get confused is the part where the video gets real vague and hand-wavey. It covers the how but not the what or the why.
@cstross took a closer look at the script. Turns out the toad is to counteract this line here which summons the all-consuming Void. That line was copied straight from a hypothetical untested cure for cancer on Ars Overflow, and that was an adaptation of an entry off Matt’s Scroll Archive to get rid of unwanted houseguests.

@cstross but if you leave that line out the caster implodes.
It occurs to me that I’m doing an awful lot of work to get my blog building successfully on some other #SSG framework while it already builds successfully — and fast — with #Hugo.
Doesn’t necessarily mean I’ll stop trying but it is definitely something to keep in mind.

Another recurring issue is most “how to create a blog in $framework” tutorial covers enough for your first half-dozen posts. Okay yes that is double the lifespan of your average blog, but there’s things to keep in mind for the multi-decade site with hundreds of posts.
Bedtime #drawing and I have to reassure myself that I won’t know if it’s a bad idea unless and until I finish.

If someone makes you happy, make them happier.
This is unsustainable and if it could be sustained it would eventually cause a chain reaction, a single object so massively cringe that no happiness can escape.
The next AI Winter is gonna be so bad it’ll set off a resurgence of earnest acoustic folk music and back-to-the-land yuppie narcissism, and that pisses me off as much as anything else.

I’m in more of a #MurderFolk mood today really.

wondering if there’s a browser plugin to replace “AI” with “math”
hackers.town: 2023-06-22 Thu 10:15
@bentsai use our new math-powered search!
hackers.town: 2023-06-22 Thu 10:16
I mean I know it’s reductive to call it all “math” but it’s pretty reductive to call it all “AI” so I think that’s a fair play.
hackers.town: 2023-06-22 Thu 10:27
@masukomi for LLM-specific stuff yes, but I’m seeing “AI” used in marketing for pretty much every kind of feature. Pretty much it’s just replaced “the algorithm” in “insulting tech terms to aim at normal people to get their money”
