@kev Currently that’s in flux.

Since I just accidentally the whole Windows partition, still Dropbox. Syncthing’s nice but only if every node has the same approach to filename case sensitivity. Plus, no iOS functionality last I looked.

Thinking about OwnCloud or NextCloud though.

My mom over on Facebook making me proud. Rather than edit or highlight the bits I like best, I’ll just post the whole thing.

Remember: there’s boomers, and then there’s old hippies.

20 years later, I’m at a neighbor’s house watching a movie, a dramatization of a little girl’s first day of integrated school, escorted by FBI to ensure her safety and her father’s battle to support it. My neighbor couldn’t understand how the father could put his daughter through that. I said if it wasn’t for that father and many others like him, we would not be sitting in his living room having this conversation. Most likely, we wouldn’t even be neighbors. The neighborhood I live in now, has given me an appreciation for my front porch. Many folks walk to the store and engage in a bit of conversation and yes, some of the younger ones eye me with distrust. But it takes me back to the mixed neighborhood Navy quonset huts. We had the one common thing of always being broke before next payday, kids developing weird accents because of the variety of speech we heard and the feeling that we were all in this together. That’s how I was raised.

This all brings me now, to today. For the last 50 years weve been living in a fantasy world that we had made progress, but we haven’t. It’s been brewing with the culture of incessant fear and sensationalism that the media now promotes. Keep us divided. Keep stirring the pot of outrage. It’s a reality show culture that has been perpetuated. Isn’t the tactic in reality show games, to keep your competion confused and divided until you are the last man standing? Think of “Survivor”. It would make much more sense to work together and build a bit of community rather than there can only be one. But, yeah, I get it. It would make for lousy ratings. Isnt it obvious that ratings is where the money is. And we learned those tactics as acceptable as our new normal. Clever little beasts, those network executives. Perfectly timed tweets. A preponderance of shock and outrage from political AND journalistic pundits with nothing to offer but there own personal opinions. You know the saying, opinions are like a$$holes, everyone has one. Unless you’re running for office or offering a viable solution with all your bitching, just shut up. Just the facts, ma’am. Solution is not what they are after. Its ratings and the money that comes with it and we sheep are only too willing to give it to them. Same goes for TV evangelists. I’m more impressed by my local community warriors, that struggle with low budgets and keep going against the odds.

The end of this long winded ramble is almost here. In all this, I never mentioned color. Yeah, I’m kinda white. There’s a wee bit of native American in my genetic make up, but, yeah I glow in the dark so I’m white. I’m low income, old and the simplest thing could push me into homelessness, but I also can go where I want without being harassed by the police. I can live where I want, etc. My freedom to choose is my white privilege. Even in my multi colored neighborhood I have privilege. What I am not is better than my neighbor or deserving of anything more or less than my neighbor. I do not understand bigotry. I see no reason why we can’t join hands and build a better world. The only blockade I see to that are the few that aspire to control us. All I can say to that…….There’s a lot more of us than them. That’s what THEY fear.
