@jnkrtech I’ll keep it in mind! We drove through Tempe on yesterday’s route, but didn’t pause. Another time perhaps.

Walking through parking lot from hotel room to main area for breakfast. About halfway through pass a couple getting in their car.

Hit the main door right as they pull up and park.

They drove maybe one hundred feet for a continental breakfast.

Saw a solid dark wasp with a body the size of my damn thumb just chilling on some flowers. I did not hang around.

Looked up “giant fucking black wasp Tucson” and learned this neighbor is the tarantula hawk wasp.

I’d heard of them and their uh special relationship with tarantulas. Let’s skip that bit.

“This wasp is not considered aggressive—”

Oh thank goodness.

@cordelya what are those blocks above the carpet?

Do they hurt?

hackers.town: 2024-06-14 Fri 14:21

@gizmomathboy I’m familiar with this sensation. Good luck!

hackers.town: 2024-06-14 Fri 15:25

@genehack A very wise choice.

hackers.town: 2024-06-14 Fri 17:00

@raganwald A lovely (and occasionally tragic) tour. Happy Birthday!

@socketwench (sigh) 1999? The trope was already a cliche by that point. So many standup routines.

Some dang good guidelines on using an LLM as editor and interactive rubber duck.

The names are distractingly surface level and brand-specific. But if you can mentally scrub and replace with generic equivalents, the tips are gold.

@luis_in_brief Ah, that’s nifty. I’m unfamiliar with the app, so with the heavy focus on brand names I assumed some kind of partnership or integration. Will edit!

Started in a new All the Mods 9 - No Frills world. Near constant intrusion by Wandering Traders and their llamas.

Opting for an aggressively anti-Wandering-Trader stance. After an alternate solution¹ failed to resolve the issue, busted out the No Soliciting Banner and Restraining Order from Utilitarian.

¹: anybody need to borrow some leads or leather? I got loads.

#Minecraft #ATM9

Next to the door of a Minecraft house, a copper lantern illuminates a banner with an image of the wandering trader’s face; the player is holding a piece of paper note, with inventory help text indicating this paper is a restraining order

@IngaLovinde I’ve gotten a few “we decided to close the position” followed by actually closing the listing. If nothing else, the novelty is nice.

@tek @bitprophet Zellij highlights some of the paradoxes in how my brain compartmentalizes information. I still find tmux easier, because everything I need to remember about tmux is locked behind C-b. Unless & until I do some rebinding in Zellij, everything overlaps what I need to remember for the terminal, the application inside the pane, the terminal emulator, and the window manager.

@funkatron I don’t always want to be heard but when I do yeah I much prefer humans to bots.

Email subject line from Notion: “Yes, AI is real.”

Look it’s supposed to be the LLM hallucinating, not you.

Unless good drugs are involved, in which case I demand more interesting hallucinations than Eliza Markov.

Anyways the only sources I’ve heard good things about Notion’s AI features: Notion, and YouTube channels dedicated to boosting the newest Notion features (and their courses in how to use them).

First test of several: monitor works, no dead pixels evident.

Some bits and bobs on the PC tower got unseated so waiting until I find my tools before testing that.

Desktop workspace in disarray, with laptop display extended to an ultrawide monitor, and a PC tower nearby on its side.

@thegibson It makes sense in the Apple context, where what they think they’re selling is a controlled, integrated experience.

Too bad that’s not what I prefer buying.

hackers.town: 2024-06-08 Sat 10:43

@minego Oh man that sucks. I assume you’re already doing what can be done to address it so I’ll stick to hoping they improve.

hackers.town: 2024-06-08 Sat 11:25

@minego frustrating how often this stuff presents a moving target. okay yeah some distance past “frustrating.”

@grmpyprogrammer (hopefully, but uncertainly given federation behavior) before anybody else chimes in with “Doom” or “Spacemacs” – yes they’re real close but if you’ve got serious decades of Vim muscle memory it takes about a minute and a half tops to hit “why doesn’t this combo work like it should”

Course you can make your own evil binding sure sure now you just need to learn Emacs, ELisp, whatever variant of configuration your chosen starter kit uses, and still learn the Emacs modes, expected Emacs bindings (for understanding blog posts) and your kit’s mappings for those common bindings.
