@deafferret the people who pick resumes and make hiring decisions?
If only I could.
hackers.town: 2025-02-21 Fri 08:12
@deafferret Sorry, I panicked.
hackers.town: 2025-02-21 Fri 08:14
Very nearly getting my org-roam in Emacs Doom config in a genuinely useful state for my workflow.
Brain goes “hey, some of the issues you’re coming across are specific to Doom. Maybe you should try another config base.”

#TIL there’s an Exercism track for #Emacs Lisp

hackers.town: 2025-02-20 Thu 08:54
@lmorchard I saw that, with somebody posting a smug take.
I’m too tired to be smug.
hackers.town: 2025-02-20 Thu 08:56
@masukomi from what I understand those issues are continuing. If I had income I’d be sending money their way.
hackers.town: 2025-02-20 Thu 08:57
@masukomi oh and yeah I’m in the Raku track –and the YAMLScript track too – but fscking ADHD means it’s been three months since I looked at it.

@jamie I’d only gotten as far as “read this and tell me where it might be confusing,” but that’s a pretty nifty idea there.
hackers.town: 2025-02-19 Wed 09:17
@wordshaper oh hey, yeah I had no idea. Between all this and no income, I’ve not exactly stayed up on tech product news.
hackers.town: 2025-02-19 Wed 09:21
@cinebox @wordshaper my 12 pro max is getting a little banged up. Whenever I can get a new phone I’m not interested in the same physical scale.

@pdcawley @pjf it really was. Knowing the story of the scene and the participants helped, but all the little things were bigger in that space. I got sniffly.

Checked the news shortly after waking up, which as you all know is ill-advised on an empty stomach.
Kinda threw me off my flow for the rest of the day.

Look, I like spicy autocomplete as much as the next nerd. Maybe. Sometimes. When it’s not too annoying.
Anyways it’s kind of something that Jakob Nielsen, whose writing taught me about avoiding mystery meat navigation, is such an enthusiastic proponent of mystery meat computing.
(also: whatever talent he has had for UX, he has an atrocious eye when it comes to generative art)

@joelle @genehack In a good shop there’s somebody with years of scar tissue to gently encourage you to look for the pattern you might be missing.
But they fired most of the folks who would fill that role. Those who do not learn history are condemned to melt the database.
It’s like the last 30 years of tech industry ego compressed into a few weeks.

Pushing my Logseq graph into a #KuzuDB database on disk takes 5.0 seconds on average. The same logic pushing to a database in memory takes 4.8 seconds on average. (M1 MBP w/32GB RAM)
I strongly suspect this says more about my schema complexity than it says about KuzuDB.

Honestly, walking the dogs, washing the dishes, eating breakfast, putting on pants, etc is part of interview prep for this #ADHD brain.
It’s clearing the slate so there’s less mental background noise during the priority task, which today is “coding interview.”

@WuMargaret Thank you! I optimize for my own aesthetics and aging eyes, so end up with high contrast without blasting your eyeballs, and text that’s large enough to read.

@deafferret Headline and the first few paragraphs had me wanting to skip. But the interviews are good, and I’m learning stuff.
hackers.town: 2025-02-12 Wed 07:24
@deafferret Definitely. And I learned one thing I’ve been doing wrong all this time with LED lights: buying the “daylight” bulbs thinking I’d get better color vividness. Then wondering why everything looked washed out with them.
