Biggest quality of life improvement in #ObsidianMD 1.8.x for me is that canvases are proper citizens. They have backlinks, show up in the graph view, and show up as linked mentions for the pages they contain.
I think there should be a special category besides “linked mention” but it’s a start, and something I can work with in post-processing.

The kind of day where I’m looking up and taking note of APA Style guidelines for video references just in case I need it at some point.

@vantablack Around 2019 when there was the panic about death from bad vapes – and Washington State briefly made them illegal to purchase at stores – that’s when some folks started being weird around vape like it was worse than smoking somehow.
Very annoying. I basically treat it like smoking. Keep away from folks when puffing. Make sure I’m in a well-ventilated space, maybe even outside. And I still had some lady get mad at me for vaping near her car? That she wasn’t in?

At some point in the last decade I learned that if you only shave once or twice a year, you should do it in two passes: clipper cut, beard oil on the stubble, wait a bit, come back later for the rest.
Injuries notably less frequent with that approach.

I have cause to brush up on htmx and Cypher for a maybe job and I am very excited.
Should I shave?
I mean the only thing that could scream “grognard” louder than being an htmx enthusiast would be maybe get a Chainmail (1971) cover art tattoo, but still this is the tech world we’re talking about.

@banjofox2 nice thing about htmx is you can sneak it into your workflow. Don’t need to master an entire ecosystem for “Hello World”

@rgegriff @cstanhope I got bad vibes on seeing the top post and so:

@tenthousandworlds @cstanhope @drwho given my penchant for unnecessarily intricate drawings including Celtic knotwork panels, and my general preference for minimizing social contact, that image is not far off!

The brain really wants to write some Perl today. All right brain, have it your way.

@Linux_in_a_Bit I shouldn’t be smug because it’ll impact the startups I’m trying to fool into hiring me.
Whatever.
They’re expensive, power-hungry (in multiple definitions), and I associate them with my previous employer which was a bitter breakup.
Let the dumpster burn.

@m I’ve heard good things about Pluralsight. Appreciate the offer! I’ll have to get back to you on that, as the possible risk for you and the likelihood of me forgetting you took the risk to provide me access within the first week? Kinda sounds like a bad combo.

@carlton Yeah there’s something I’ve got that they’ll never think to put in an AI:
deeply ingrained imposter syndrome and constant anxiety

@sleepyfox anecdotally yes. Something about a GPU function specifically for fonts that’s not implemented well / consistently?
hackers.town: 2025-01-25 Sat 07:19
@sleepyfox I think you’re right. I would expect significant differences of course. But with everyone else, once you’ve named a core package you’ve set expectations. Django, Flask, Mojolicious, Catalyst, etc.
But nearly every React shop where I’ve asked for details works out to such significant differences that it’s like the Perl shops where “uh yeah no we use our own in-house framework.”
