npm is the only dependency manager I have that’ll kick the system fans on when I tell it to install project dependencies.

My poor computer: “WTF we doing, boss? Playing Elden Ring on Ultra? Training AI? Mining crypto?”

Me: “Sorry, no. Installing a static site generator.”

My computer: “I miss Perl”

hackers.town: 2023-04-18 Tue 18:45

My computer is seven years old, which in computer years is like — I dunno, seven years old.

Brain wouldn’t let me go to bed until I had something figured out for a front page.

@mjgardner @silverbullet @randomgeek@ack.cringe.cafe oh no

@chrisjrn It feels like a lot of the folks who would engage (reply, retweet, etc) have moved on to less fraught locales.

@gewalker @WuMargaret In the fine tradition of infodumping: If you like the just-Markdown of Obsidian but not the closed-sourceness or getting lost in plugins, maybe try Zettlr? Any sync or post-processing you do yourself. OTOH it has never broken on me.

hackers.town: 2023-04-16 Sun 10:52

@gewalker @WuMargaret (mentioned because I’m thinking a lot about Zettlr’s simplicity while wrestling with Logseq’s tweaky Markdown-ish syntax)

hackers.town: 2023-04-16 Sun 12:03

Backlinks can wait until I handle Logseq’s syntax extras, or at least the ones I care about.

Hey look I got another terrible idea!

Edit: and that idea would be using #Eleventy to publish a #Logseq graph. Exploratory meanderings at https://github.com/brianwisti/logseq-eleventy

Being invited to an event via text chat is nice because I don’t have to worry about masking. I can have the immediate “WTF no” reaction, look directly at it, and evaluate whether that’s how I really feel — it isn’t always — before answering.

Me: “But I’m working on a thing!”

Also me: Is that an important thing or just the shiny target of this afternoon’s hyperfocus?

Zellij, Helix, Nushell, zk, basically completely rewriting my terminal workflow.

hackers.town: 2023-04-13 Thu 13:15

Hm. Zellij a) grabs common app bindings like C-q and C-s for its own session management; and b) does not yet understand the concept of a leader key, which means I’d have to redefine every last binding?

hackers.town: 2023-04-13 Thu 13:16

Think I might go back to the experiment multiplexing with WezTerm rather than mucking about more with Zellij.

@ovid @adrianh@mastodon.social oh she’s seen it, got the story from Mom (photographer told me to think about girls), and gone “awww”

But in fairness to the thread’s motif, here’s from before I knew what a smile was supposed to look like.

Insomnia headache.

Also, poor Pop OS didn’t even last a full day before I got annoyed. Little fiddly device issues that work fine in EndeavourOS, so the hard drive belongs to Endeavour now.

@gewalker all the annoyances of GNOME with a few extras. I hope their custom desktop works out. Meanwhile, KDE on a rolling release is my relatively happy place.

Talking with a recruiter about an interesting job possibility:

“That’s a great service and there’s a gap [where the target of that service is not being addressed]. I don’t know if it’s a money-making gap, but there’s a gap! That intrigues me!”

#ADHD overshare isn’t the same as brutal honesty but there’s a lot of overlap.

Brushing up on my TypeScript by forking a dead project by someone else who was apparently also brushing up on their TypeScript.
